Summary.
On March 4, parliamentarians meeting in Congress at the Palace of Versailles voted to include voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG) in the Constitution.
The debate was launched in France in 2018, and efforts to achieve constitutionalization of abortion intensified while the right to abortion was attacked in several countries, notably in the United States.
After months of negotiation and several legislative proposals, the Senate ended up deciding in favor of including in the Constitution the “guaranteed freedom of women to resort to abortion” on February 28, paving the way for vote of parliamentarians in Versailles.
