He probably cannot be punished: A 33-year-old from Starnberg was in an exceptional situation between 2022 and 2023 due to mental illness.

He rioted in a psychiatric clinic in Gauting and in an inn in Berg.

He also stopped a driver at night in Starnberg and tried to extort money and cocaine.

Now the man has to answer before the Munich II Regional Court.

A mentally ill man kept the police in Gauting and Berg very busy in 2022 and 2023.

Now his behavior is being examined before the Munich II Regional Court.

Legally, it's about bodily harm, threats and insults.

It all started on a summer evening in 2022. The 33-year-old defendant threw pebbles at two women who were on a balcony in Gauting.

He rode through town on a bicycle, randomly insulting a woman who was sitting on a bench.

Two minutes later he yelled at a dog walker with the words: “I don’t care about your life.”

When the police checked him half an hour later, he had 0.8 grams of marijuana with him.

The prosecution lists another incident as occurring at the end of August.

In the psychiatric ward he beat everything to a halt

At that time he had been admitted to the psychiatric hospital in Gauting and was desperate to leave the closed ward.

Because they wouldn't let him, he chopped up everything that wasn't screwed down.

“He wants to get out, he wants to get out,” he shouted, and at some point the first objects started flying in the hallway,” a nurse recalled.

When the defendant finally broke down the door to the base for nurses and doctors, the staff fled, regardless of the fact that the patients were still in their rooms.

But the 33-year-old's violence was not directed against people.

The nurses observed this and were reassured.

Because of course they also had a bad conscience about evacuating the station.

“But self-protection is the greater good,” explained the nurse.

The victim demanded 10,000 euros in compensation from the defendant

The series of riots continued in May 2023.

Shortly before midnight, the defendant stood at an intersection in Starnberg and forced a 20-year-old driver to stop.

“He asked for money and coke, otherwise he would have to kill me,” the young man recalled.

When the 33-year-old tried to tear out the side window, the young man drove off.

At home he alerted the police.

When a defense attorney contacted him before the trial and offered financial compensation, he demanded 10,000 euros.

A 56-year-old demanded even more compensation.

He was attacked by the defendant with a candlestick in a hotel in Berg around three o'clock in the morning and suffered a one-centimeter cut.

The defendant, who could barely remember because of his psychotic state, apologized to everyone.

The process is ongoing.
