The Kochel police report an unusual theft and are looking for hikers who may have seen something on Saturday.

But the thief could also be caught out by another fact.

Kochel am See – Last Saturday, a 46-year-old Kochler woman was on her mountain bike towards the Kochler Alm. She wanted to go mountaineering in this area.

That's why she parked her bike in the Bergelskopf area and secured it with a lock on a tree.

When the woman returned around 5 p.m., the tree had been knocked down and the bike was stolen.

“The Kochler woman first looked for her bike in the area, but then she filed a report,” reports Kochler police chief Steffen Wiedemann.

The perpetrator must be a strong person

The tree, as Wiedemann reported in an interview with our newspaper, was in a place that was not immediately visible and was rotten.

“The woman probably didn't expect it to be so rotten that it could be knocked over.” Nevertheless, it was probably a stronger person who knocked down the tree to take possession of the bike.

Because there are always hikers in this area, police hope that people who saw the unusual activity on Saturday will come forward.

“This is really a rare type of theft,” says Wiedemann.

“But it also shows: nothing is certain.”

Wheel has a striking color

The police are also hoping for another way to solve the crime: it involves a mountain bike, which, according to Wiedemann, is “really very green”.

To be more precise, it is a Merida brand bike worth a good 3000 euros.

“The perpetrator may be from the region and is now cycling.” The officials in Kochel are asking for any relevant information on 0 80 41/76 10 62 73.
