The cultural development plan has been being worked on in Schongau since autumn.

Now the next step was taken at two workshops in the Ballenhaus and the youth center.

Schongau – Two online surveys and one-on-one interviews have already taken place to find out what the culture is like in Schongau.

The aim now is to “continue the project with active measures,” explained location promoter Tina Birke to the around 20 cultural workers in the Ballenhaus.

“We have already come a long way,” explained cultural manager Martina Taubenberger, who was commissioned by the city to take on the issue.

First, she presented the results of the survey, in which 81 institutions took part.

The areas of music, cultural education and local heritage were most strongly represented.

The result was that most of those involved in the cultural sector are volunteers and almost half are organized in clubs.

“It’s a miracle that it works like this.

“It should actually lead to excessive demands,” said Taubenberger, surprised.

But the people of Schongau have released incredible energy in recent years to save the existing facilities.

A high level of professionalization has developed.

The findings of the survey are “an invitation for everyone working in the cultural sector to work with the results”.

There is a lack of attractive event venues

It is noteworthy that most of the cultural institutions surveyed are currently self-financing.

“Extended funding advice is an area of action that immediately catches my eye,” said Taubenberger, who saw many opportunities to generate funds.

Many of those surveyed would like to see better networking between the individual cultural institutions, although, according to Taubenberger, the level of cooperation is already exceptionally high.

Collaboration with institutions in neighboring municipalities is also strong - 54 percent said they had one.

“This is a very good value and not a given,” praised the expert and saw the music and traditional costume associations as the reason for this.

It's a shame that aspects such as sustainability are put at the back of the list, but it's common, says Taubenberger.

Here she sees the city council as having a duty to provide impulses to which the cultural institutions could then respond.

Actors also hope for support from the city at events and in the form of less bureaucracy.

Another survey was aimed at citizens.

252 questionnaires were evaluated.

This is where Schongau's importance as a cultural center became apparent - also in the surrounding area.

However, many criticized the fact that there were hardly any attractive event venues.

The lack of events with “more standards”, too few cinema offerings, too few meeting places for young people and a lack of pub culture were criticized, and more options for participation in the cultural sector were requested.

After the lecture, those present were divided into four changing groups and discussed the topics of “quality management”, “cultural diversity”, “networking and cooperation” and “securing the future”.

It quickly became apparent that there were many ideas that could have a positive impact on visibility, recruiting young talent or networking.

“The high quality of the discussions,” Taubenberger attested to the participants.

“I'm in a very positive mood,” she said, seeing a lot of potential in the resulting approaches that could be built on.

For example, a “steering group” could be set up relatively easily to ensure networking and tackle qualification measures together.

Symbiosis could be used in this way.

Next meeting on March 14th

Another meeting will take place on Thursday, March 14th, to which, in addition to clubs and institutions, the independent artist scene or people who would like to become active in it are invited.

The cultural development plan with recommendations for action should be ready by mid-April.

The ideas in the youth sector are not yet fully developed.

Young people were only poorly represented in the survey with 20 people.

The few participants were reasonably satisfied with what was on offer in Schongau.

“It turned out to be completely different at the workshop,” Taubenberger reported on the mood at the meeting with students.

“Pretty much everything is missing for young people.

“They don’t feel welcome or seen in public spaces,” explained Taubenberger.

The students are particularly troubled by the division into the three-tier school system and the associated prejudices.

The student representatives would therefore like to cooperate in the future.

Most of those present had not heard anything about the survey.

Therefore it is now being put online again.

Another meeting is also planned.
