The US Supreme Court on Monday suspended the entry into force of a controversial law enacted by Texas aimed at criminalizing illegal immigration.
A text pushed by the Texas governor, Greg Abbott, supporter of Donald Trump, who has been repeating for months that the President of the United States is showing "deliberate inaction" regarding this immigration which he describes as an "invasion".

Called “SB 4”, this law would notably establish a “criminal offense of illegal entry into Texas from a foreign country”, punishable by six months in prison and up to 20 years in the event of a repeat offense.
It also offered the State the possibility of stopping and expelling migrants.
Examination of the current file
A federal judge, contacted by the Ministry of Justice, NGOs supporting immigrants and a local community, had already suspended its entry into force at the end of February, before a subsequent decision on the merits.
Texas immediately appealed this decision and obtained its suspension by an appeals court, before the Department of Justice asked the Supreme Court on Monday to take up the matter.

The latter therefore blocked the entry into force of this law until March 13, the time to examine the file.
