Genetic samples reveal: The wolf that was run over is a cub from 2023. Further investigations are planned.
Schwandorf – A wolf died in a traffic accident on Autobahn 93 in Upper Palatinate.
Alexander Flierl, the member of the state parliament for Schwandorf (CSU), announced that the responsible department in the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) had confirmed this.

According to the motorway police, the wildlife accident occurred on the night of February 25th near Klardorf in the Schwandorf district.
A young driver contacted the police because an animal suddenly appeared in front of her vehicle.
The species of the animal initially remained undetermined because it could not be found.
It wasn't until the following morning that the road maintenance department discovered the wolf's carcass.
The woman was uninjured in the incident.
The police estimate the damage to the vehicle caused by the accident to be around 2,000 euros.

Flierl announced that the first genetic samples had already been taken.
Further examinations of the animal's body are planned at the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research in Berlin.
According to initial estimates, the animal is a male cub that was born in 2023.
