Dozens of families from the Shukda settlement in the Gaza Strip, who were evacuated from their homes after the events of October 7, returned to their home in the quiet settlement last month - after nearly five months of staying in hotels.

The anxieties and concerns did not go anywhere - however the residents believe that returning home is the right thing for the community.

The sounds of IDF bombings were also heard this morning in Shokada - and soldiers are still stationed at the entrance to it, stopping almost every vehicle and checking the reason for its arrival at the seat. Shokada has about 600 residents, comprising 138 families - of which, only four families have not yet returned home.

"It was very difficult, with the children it was a huge difficulty to even bring them to the hotel, they felt that it was not their home," said Yara, who lives in Moshav, "In terms of feeling safe in the hotel, it was safer, the children were not afraid to walk around. I have a kind of fear and apprehension, the darkness is falling And we go out less and shut ourselves in the house. I'm afraid to even go out to the warehouse next to my house. But going back to Moshav so that the children can return to their routine is better than hotels. The explosions take me back a bit."

Yaron Samimi returned about a month ago to his home in Moshav with his children.

According to him, returning home was good for him and his family: "We were four months out of Moshav, it was very difficult for us. The disconnection from home, the disconnection from the educational frameworks, the family part, was difficult. Although we felt safe there, but returning to Moshav did us good."

According to him, "The explosions still scare the children, we constantly explain to them that these are IDF bombings and they calm down a bit.

When we returned for the first time, some of the residents helped the soldiers to go around the moshav, but that has passed, there are still people who are afraid, but it is good to return home."

Ephraim Luzon, was called to reserve service when his wife and six children had to evacuate the moshav, and stay at a hotel in Neve Ilan: "It's a great joy, there's nothing like coming home, a big part of community resilience is rebuilding the moshav from their point of view, I wanted to go home."

Luzon, who served 143 days in the reserves, added: "This is a complex time, half of our hearts are in Gaza. The feelings are mixed - we are full of joy to return, and on the other hand, the war is still here. There are still fears and anxieties, there are still worries, it's not just rockets but mostly infiltration, it will accompany us."

According to him, "In fact, returning to the seat lowered the level of anxiety, returning to the seat actually did good for the children. The event of returning to the seat, is not just starting the car and arriving home, there are still needs and areas of security that have not yet been completed."

Shira Svid told about the concerns she faced when she decided to return to the moshav: "My husband was in the reserves, and I was with the children, there were concerns about returning home, but it was good to return to the moshav, the return strengthened us, community life is recovering, unfortunately we got used to the noise of the war, the return home did us all good." .

Mittal Falak, who has already returned to work in her ceramics workshop, was also excited: "It's fun to be home, there was excitement when we returned, the children got used to it quickly, we still hear the noises of the war, returning to this piece of land is a dream. The noises are still frightening, there is fear, I I prefer to be here and not in a hotel, this is home, home has given us back our family."
