Winter is flexing its muscles again: a low over Italy is also affecting the south of Bavaria and bringing with it large amounts of snow.
Munich – Very few people had expected this comeback: after the record mild February and the meteorological start of spring on March 1st, the snow and cold should slowly be over.
Wrong thought: The German Weather Service (DWD) is currently warning of snow - and not just a few flakes, but rather a lot of white splendor.
Weather turns on the snow cannon: DWD warns of 40 centimeters
In the current warning report from the German Weather Service, the meteorologists write that “a low over northern Italy is currently having a temporary impact on parts of Bavaria”.
At the same time, “in the southwest, Mediterranean air slides onto sea air of polar origin.”
The north of Bavaria remains largely unaffected by both locations.
This means that Bavaria can currently be divided into three weather areas.
After a mild February, winter celebrates a big comeback at the beginning of March - and brings a lot of snow to Bavaria.

The most exciting part is in the south of Bavaria.
It's supposed to snow again there.
By the night of Thursday, March 7th, there should be up to ten centimeters of fresh snow in places from 600 to 800 meters.
At slightly higher altitudes even 20 centimeters.
But that's not all: "In the Alpine valleys west of the Inn up to 20 cm, in isolated cases up to 40 cm of fresh snow in high altitudes," write the meteorologists in the warning report.
In the Chiemgau and Berchtesgaden Alps, above around 1000 m, there is expected to be an increase of 5 centimeters in snow.
It is likely to snow right up to the gates of Munich this Wednesday.

The regions around northern Swabia and northern Upper Bavaria should meanwhile prepare for rain.
According to the DWD, there is a “low probability of more than 40 liters per square meter of rain within 48 hours until Thursday morning,” says the warning situation report.

The temperatures will reach seven to nine degrees in Bavaria today, and on Thursday it will rise slightly to nine to ten degrees.
At the start of the coming weekend, double-digit temperatures will be reached across the board.
