Here you can find inspiration in passing: The exhibition “Art in the Shop Window” in Holzkirchen is going into its fourth edition.

There are 23 participants to discover at 28 stations.

Holzkirchen

– The exhibition “Art in the Shop Window” is taking place in the market town for the fourth time.

23 artists are represented at 28 showcase stations.

Together with twelve locations with permanent art in public spaces, the result is a veritable art trail.

Abstract structures and (un)appetizing burger

At the opening in the atrium, Mayor Christoph Schmid recalled the beginnings, which seemed like they came from another world: During the Corona lockdown, when no regular exhibitions were possible, the Kulturvision association and the municipality's location development agency launched the project.

Given the concept, which is still charming today, Schmid did not want to describe it as “born out of necessity”: “It was the creative phase of Corona when this wonderful format came about.”

In addition to the art trail through the Holzkirchner center along the main axes Tegernseer, Tölzer and especially Münchner Straße, there is again the central exhibition in the atrium, which brings together all participants with exhibits.

Gabriele Hofweber from Otterfing, for example, shows there - and in the shop window of the One World Shop - pictures that attract with luminosity and captivate with plastic structures: the blue-dominated “In the Lagoon” and the yellow-orange-dominated “Sand and more” in Acrylic and mixed media.

The approximately 40 visitors on the short tour at the opening discovered that a second or third look is always worth it, looking at the photographs by Julia Schmidt from the Valley, whose work can also be seen in the Abfüllerei unpackaged shop.

She surprised with unexpected details.

Her burger is actually not half as tasty as it might look: the photo artist draped it from the waste of affluent society for her project “The Sicknature Collection” - loosely based on the burger series of a large fast food chain.

It's worth taking a closer look

It's also worth taking a closer look at graphic artist Thomas Jarzina from Holzkirchen, who is also represented at Kultur im Oberbräu with digital and mixed media.

In his colorful, shimmering reverse glass print “Paradise IV”, the viewer discovers the head of a tiger, a fish, a sheep or a fire salamander in the supposed abstract flora, almost like in a hidden object picture for art lovers.

Konrad Broxtermann brings the third dimension to the exhibition.

The sculptor from Waakirchen shows sculptures made of various materials in the atrium - from a torso made of poplar wood to a Möbius strip made of sandstone.

His works can also be found in the shop window of optician Michael Werner, who regularly gives art a podium in the atrium.

“Art in the Shop Window” can be seen until Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024: in the atrium (Münchner Straße 56) as well as in the shop windows and in the town center.

Information about the individual artists can be found on the market town's website.

Schmid hopes that many people will be inspired to take an art walk during Lent until Easter: “We fast on a lot of things, but not on culture.”
