Something like this doesn't happen every day in a nursing home like the BRK senior citizens' home: Ruth Reis looks back on a century full of life.

Fürstenfeldbruck – The senior citizen recently celebrated her 100th birthday in the west of Bruck.

Both Deputy District Administrator Martina Drechsler and City Councilor Franz Höfelsauer were surprised by her vitality.

The woman celebrating her birthday chatted about her life with a lot of enthusiasm and memories.

Ruth Reis was brimming with joy of life.

“I fell many times in my life and still lived to be 100 years old,” said the celebrator and laughed.

She has had an eventful life so far, but also a satisfied one.

She said she didn't have a recipe for it.

It's enough to be a life-affirming person and do sports all your life.

To the pub

For years, Ruth Reis went to Bad Wörishofen to go to the bars and go hiking in the mountains.

And in the retirement home, she still takes part in everything that is offered, said daughter Monika Truger: sitting dance, painting courses, memory training, or just partying.

And she can't miss her daily rummy game either.

Ruth Reis was born in Stargard near Stettin.

While working in the Reich Labor Service, she met and fell in love with her husband in Gotenhafen.

He served there as a handsome marine.

“You won’t know the Reich Labor Service,” said the celebratory woman jokingly, turning to deputy district administrator Martina Drechsler.

“You’re not that old yet.”

Kitchen

The trained businesswoman gave up the office of a construction and metalworking shop.

When her husband returned from captivity, she went with him west to Bühl.

Ruth Reis still remembered that she didn't want to expose herself in front of her mother-in-law and quickly learned to cook in the hospital in Baden-Baden.

Because she wanted to prove to her mother-in-law that she mastered Baden cuisine.

Assisted living

Her husband died 24 years ago.

Ruth Reis became too lonely in Bühl, where she had spent half her life.

At the age of 92, she sold her house and moved into assisted living in the residential complex in Buchenau opposite the BRK senior citizens' home - and thus close to her only daughter.

She also found connections there without any problems and made new friends.

In October 2020, Ruth Reis moved to the BRK dormitory.

The special day was celebrated not only in the retirement home, but also with the family.

Daughter Monika Truger had brought all family members together in Türkenfeld.

These include three grandchildren and their families, including four great-grandchildren.

And the fifth great-grandchild is already on the way.
