“As long as there is demand for copper, this will continue,” said the mayor of Saintines (Oise), Jean-Pierre Desmoulins.
This Monday, 800 m of ADSL cables, belonging to the Orange company, were stolen, leading to outages for nearly 300 homes, whether in Villeneuve-sur-Verberie, Rivecourt, Longueil-Sainte-Marie or even in Saintines.
“Anyway, in the countryside, everyone goes there,” continues the elected official in a philosophical tone.
In his town of around 1,000 inhabitants, this is even the second time that they have been affected by this scourge.
“Last time, in the summer of 2023, we even had to wait two months before being connected again,” he remembers.
Two months during which many people found themselves without telephones, Internet or television.
Already at the time, he had to go door to door to his “older” residents to find out how they were doing and offer them a “small package with fiber”.
“But with any operator, we are not there to advertise, we just want residents not to find themselves too isolated,” insists Jean-Pierre Desmoulins.
This poses huge problems, otherwise for the elderly, their children have to call me to get their news.
