Highlights: Two cars burned in 4 days in front of Beauvais prison. “They are attacking us, the staff of the establishment, it’s distressing,” denounces Joris, UFAP-UNSa union representative. In April 2022, a prison administration vehicle was similarly set on fire in the parking lot reserved for staff. ‘We were promised this portal in four months, we'll see,’ laments Fabien, guard, FO union rep.

For the second time in four days, a Beauvais prison staff vehicle was set on fire in one of the establishment's parking lots.

Around 2:30 a.m., during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, a vehicle caught fire in the visitors' parking lot of the Beauvais penitentiary center.

“Fortunately, the alert was given immediately and the police and firefighters were able to intervene very quickly,” says Fabien, guard, FO union representative.

This allowed the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.

“He tried to escape and the police arrested him when he wanted to go back through the gate,” explains Fabien.

He had apparently passed through the forest, at the back of the establishment, where the projectors usually act (

The suspected arsonist was also seriously burned by a flashback.

He was treated on site by the emergency services before being urgently transported to the Burns Treatment Center at the Percy Army Training Hospital, in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine).

“We are being attacked”

On site, the staff are in shock after “this new attack”.

“They are attacking us, the staff of the establishment, it’s distressing,” denounces Joris, UFAP-UNSa union representative.

It is an attack, a criminal and cowardly act.

We have strong suspicions about the actions of one or more detainees.

Threats are our daily lot.

We are awaiting the result of the investigation to know the protagonist(s) and the sanctions that will result.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, a first vehicle belonging to a prison employee was set on fire.

The Beauvais public prosecutor’s office opened “a blatant investigation”.

“The interdepartmental service of the judicial police has also been informed of these facts and will have to establish the possible link of this fire with previous facts”, specifies Frédéric Trinh, public prosecutor of Beauvais.

“We were promised this portal in four months”

This is in fact not the second time, in a few days, that a vehicle has been set on fire in the prison parking lot.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, a car was burned in the parking lot reserved for staff.

In April 2022, a prison administration vehicle was similarly set on fire.

“It is inconceivable that in a modern establishment, there is no gate to secure the area reserved for staff,” laments Joris.

We are disappointed by the fact that it took this series of events for the administration to move.

There was always a question of money, of signing.

We were promised this portal in four months, we'll see.

“We fear for the safety of colleagues who remain targets,” laments Fabien.

We had planned to block the establishment, given the promises given, we will wait.

» The trade unionist stressed that “losing your vehicle remains a huge loss for the employee because it is individual insurance and not the administration that intervenes”.
