Donald Trump is probably the next Republican presidential candidate again.
Robert Habeck warns against hasty conclusions.
But criticism remains.
Washington – Donald Trump is the triumphant on Super Tuesday – but Robert Habeck (Greens) warns against scaremongering.
Despite Trump's successes in the primaries, the German Vice Chancellor called for cautious predictions about the outcome of the US presidential election.
“You shouldn’t make the mistake of declaring Trump the early winner,” said Habeck, referring to the former US president.
Habeck: Europe must “do its own homework” - regardless of the US election
The election campaign hasn't even really started yet.
“We also know from the German election campaigns what can still happen,” said Habeck, who is also the Federal Minister of Economics, on Wednesday (March 6) before leaving for a multi-day trip to the USA.

But it is completely clear to him that Europe has to do its “own homework”.
Europe must become resilient in a completely changed world situation, Habeck continued - both in terms of economic security and in terms of military capacities.
This applies regardless of the outcome of the election in the USA.
Röttgen: Germany not prepared for Trump as president
CDU foreign expert Norbert Röttgen, however, believes Germany is “not prepared” for another Trump presidency.
“Clearly no, it’s not us.
The federal government's position is quite open: we'll wait and see and then we'll start thinking and adapting to it.
I think that’s grotesque and irresponsible,” said Röttgen on
ZDF
.
Trump is doing better in the race than Biden, said Röttgen.
“But a snapshot at the beginning of March has no real significance for the election at the beginning of November.
What has to be said is that the least we can do is that Trump's re-election cannot be ruled out.” The chances are 50:50.

Röttgen on Trump: “There could be a deal with Putin”
If Trump is elected, “there will be an abrupt break with American foreign policy,” Röttgen continued.
“All support to Ukraine will cease.
Maybe there will even be a deal with Putin." Then the Europeans would have to answer the question "whether we and we as Europeans ourselves have to stand up for Europe's security for the first time.
And for that you have to have skills and resources.
Failure to do so is more than grossly negligent.”
After his victory in 14 of the 15 US states in which his Republicans held primaries, Trump's only remaining intra-party rival Nikki Haley drew the conclusion: she dropped out of the Republican race.
So everything looks like another duel between Trump and Joe Biden in the November election.
Among the Democrats, Biden sails safely through the primaries because he has no serious competitors.
