In an interview with the New York Times, the Mare of Eastown actress lamented the praise for weight loss, which caused her to keep quiet about her eating disorders when she was younger.

In an interview with Rolling Stone

magazine

in 1998, Kate Winslet said she was a "chubby" teenager who "had lost significant weight while following the Weight Watchers diet."

She explained that the turning point had occurred at the age of 16, following a remark from a director on the filming of a television series.

And to cut the subject short: “End of the story.”

Nearly thirty years later, the actress openly admits today to having suffered from an eating disorder (TCA) at that time.

“I never told anyone about it,” she admitted in an interview with the

“Compliments are linked to weight”

The reason for this silence?

The laudatory remarks she received after her physical “transformation” encouraged her to keep her suffering a secret.

“Because, guess what?

People around you say, "Hey, you look great! You lost weight!"

So, even compliments on physical appearance are linked to weight,” she continues, before clarifying: “That’s something I won’t let people do anymore.

If they do, I will reprimand them immediately.”

The American journalist then discusses the impact of the Ozempic craze in this new praise of thinness, more present than ever in the industry.

“Actually, I don't know what Ozempic is,” admits the heroine of

, “all I know is that it's a pill that people take or something like that .

But what is it?”, she then asks with “a mouth full of pastry”, as the article specifies.

A body constantly scrutinized

This is not the first time that the L'Oréal Paris muse has spoken about the pressures she suffered during her career regarding her figure.

Already, in an interview given to

Madame Figaro

in 2022, she spoke about the unpleasant media treatment against her, at the time of the release of the film

Titanic

: “At that time, at the end of the 1990s, the The press had no regard for the actresses.

Female physiques were discussed without shame and comments were particularly made on the bodies and weight of actresses.

I remember that time very well and, in retrospect, it seems shameful to me,” she protested.

In another interview with the

Sunday Times

in March 2023, she also spoke of all the prejudices she had to face at the start of her career, particularly from those who predicted only “fat girl” roles for her.

“It can be extremely negative.

[...] People are subjected to scrutiny that a young and vulnerable person is not prepared for,” she lamented, adding that her agent regularly received calls to find out how her weight was.
