Will Apple be the first digital giant to taste the sanctions provided for by the Digital Markets Act?
The group led by Tim Cook took on the role of the ugly duckling of Gafam, delivering an interpretation of the European regulation criticized from all sides.
On Monday, while unveiling an unprecedented sanction of 1.8 billion euros against the company for abuse of a dominant position in the music applications market, the Vice-President of the Commission, Margrethe Vestager, warned:
“We We will study Apple's solutions very carefully (
to comply with the DMA, Editor's note
), it is a priority for our services.
If necessary, we will open an investigation.”
For the head of European antitrust,
“even if the DMA has been carefully thought out, we know that we are going to see a lot of creativity in the way of diverting it”.
This regulation provides for sanctions of up to 10% of annual turnover.
