Emmanuel Macron will travel to Marseille on May 8 to participate in the commemorations of the Liberation of the city, announces the town hall of France's second city in a press release.
The President of the Republic will take part in the ceremony which celebrates the 80th anniversary of this historic event.
This date coincides in Marseille with the arrival of the Olympic flame in the Old Port aboard the
Bélem
.
The famous boat will transport the precious flame from Piraeus in Greece to France's second city.
The flame will then travel throughout France until the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

for this 80th anniversary.
“Marseille was a great capital of the Resistance,”
writes the former socialist.
This year France and Marseille are paying tribute to all their liberators from here and elsewhere, French and foreign.
In Marseille, like every year, there will be many of us to pay tribute to them, and remember the strength of their heritage.”
In a video published on social networks, the President of the Republic announced that he will launch the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Landing on April 16 in the Vercors.
“2024 will remember the rebirth of our nation”
and must
“celebrate the courage of our liberators, resistance fighters, soldiers from allied countries, fighters of the army reconstituted by Free France on the African continent”
, including
“many from Africa, the Pacific or the whole world
,” explained the Head of State in his video.
