Europeans 2024: Marie Toussaint (EELV) urges Aubry and Glucksmann to boycott the debate organized by CNews

Highlights: Marie Toussaint (EELV) urges Aubry and Glucksmann to boycott the debate organized by CNews. “We, left-wing political leaders, have a duty to refuse to participate in the effort to Trumpize the media space,” she mocks. The EELV contender, stagnating around 8% of voting intentions in the polls, has in reality only refined her argument in recent days. The young politician indicated that she made her decision after observing the channel consider abortion as one of the main causes of mortality in the world.

In a letter addressed to his left-wing competitors, the head of the EELV list urges them not to fall “into this ambush organized by (their) political adversaries”.

The European campaign hasn't even started yet and tempers are already heating up.

While all the heads of the list are finally made official, after the appointment of the Macronist Valérie Hayer, the time has come to prepare for the debates which will set the pace of the political tempo in the coming months.

The first televised confrontation will take place on Thursday March 14 on Public Senate.

If the main news and general channels have already lined up to broadcast their own meeting, one of them is causing cringe on the left: the one organized by CNews.

The channel plans to organize a debate on May 30.

That is ten days before the election.

The platform offered may well be strategic at a time when the choice of the French is crystallizing, the head of the EELV list Marie Toussaint simply refused to participate.

And urges his left-wing competitors, Raphaël Glucksmann (PS-Place Publique) and Manon Aubry (LFI), to do the same.

In a letter revealed by L'Obs this Wednesday, the ecologist asks them not to

"fall into the ambush organized by (their) political adversaries."

And to

“oppose a firm refusal”

to this invitation.

“We, left-wing political leaders, have a duty to refuse to participate in the effort to Trumpize the media space

,” she mocks.

Continuing her charge against CNews, under the spotlight since the Council of State's request to Arcom on respect for plurality on the channel, Marie Toussaint accuses the channel of being the

"French copy of Fox News"

, which “

now assumes its status as a propaganda agency in the service of a civilizational project”.

Whose

“drift has reached a point of no return”

.

A previous missive to Canal+

The EELV contender, stagnating around 8% of voting intentions in the polls, has in reality only refined her argument in recent days.

This weekend, she had already written a first missive to Serge Nedjar, general director of CNews, and to entrepreneur Vincent Bolloré, who owns Vivendi, owner of the Canal+ group.

A deadly letter in which she vehemently castigated their editorial line:

“I will respond to all media that respect the ethics of their profession.

Your antenna unfortunately no longer falls into this category

.

The young politician indicated that she made her decision after observing the channel consider, in an infographic, abortion as one of the main causes of mortality in the world.

Which prompted CNews to apologize.
