Sardinia's population of rare griffonvultures is booming with an 11.8% increase in the number of the birds last year, the LIFE Safe for Vultures project said Wednesday.
The majority of the species is concentrated in the wildnorthwest of the island, the project said.
The stocks now range form 332 to 378 individuals.
LIFE Safe for Vultures aims to ensure that griffon vulturesregain their historical distribution areas on Sardinia andpromote the island's long-term survival.
