The almost 190 participants in the Hunter Ski World Championships at Tegernsee were not deterred by the bad weather conditions.

The four-day event was a complete success – also for the tourism region.

Tegernsee Valley

- At the Hunter Ski World Championships in Tegernsee Valley this year a Swiss woman and a German were on the winner's podium.

Among the almost 190 participants, the Swiss Silvana Stecher prevailed among the women, while the German Frieder Motz won the world championship title among the men.

But local tourism was also a winner.

“Many hunters want to come back at other times of the year to take advantage of the region’s attractive offerings,” said Christian Kausch, Managing Director of Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT), at the gala evening.

Half of the participants come from Switzerland

The Hunter Ski World Championships have existed since 2011. The competition is held in four Alpine regions: the Montafon, where it was founded, in Silvaplana/St.

Moritz, in the Sarntal in South Tyrol and - since 2019 - also on Lake Tegernsee.

About half of the participants came from Switzerland.

Other teams and individuals traveled from Austria, Germany, Italy and Sweden.

According to a press release, the event was also well received by local hunters: some locals from the Miesbach and Tölz-Wolfratshausen districts took part and demonstrated their skills.

For the first time, a woman won the honorary disc

The ambitious major event is aimed at all hunters who look just as good on the slopes as they do at the shooting range.

The hunters did not stand on the boards in ski suits, but rather in imaginatively put together hunting clothing.

The first competition took place at the shooting range of the Miesbach mountain rifle company, and on the second day of the competition we took to the slopes at Sonnenbichl.

During the giant slalom, participants had to stop twice and fire shots at biathlon targets from a distance of 50 meters at shooting ranges next to the track.

In addition to the new world champions Stecher and Moth, Benno Kurz from Switzerland also had reason to be happy.

He was the best shooter in hunting shooting.

The honor disc was awarded among the six best shooters.

Here a woman won for the first time, the Swiss Esther Schopfer.

“A good opportunity for the region”

A varied supporting program showed the participants the culinary side of the district over four days.

The award ceremony and award ceremony took place as part of a gala evening at Gut Kaltenbrunn.

TTT event manager Peter Rie was extremely satisfied at the end.

Despite the poor snow conditions, thanks to the efforts of the Christa Kinshofer Ski Center and with the help of the Montafon Ski Club, it was possible to hold a modified form of a ski race at Sonnenbichl.

For managing director Kausch, the event was “a good opportunity for the region to enliven the winter season with high added value from a sustainability perspective and to cultivate the friendships that have developed.”

He thanked clubs, authorities and partners for their support.

A new edition of the World Cup in 2028 is being planned.

Next year it will take place again in Silvaplana.
