“It could be, we don't know for sure...” The Bavarian Minister for Science and Art, Markus Blume, is certain: the district town is the right place for the latest of over 40 planned technology transfer centers (TTZ) in Bavaria.
Marktoberdorf - The TTZ in Marktoberdorf also gets its own name for the inauguration: The Institute for Applied AI and Robotics (IKR) was launched last Tuesday, and the Bavarian Minister of Science came personally to press the starting buzzer.
The TTZ in Marktoberdorf, which is affiliated with Kempten University, is scheduled to go into operation at the start of the semester in April.
Robotics Institute as a sparring partner for companies
Like only a few in Germany, the university offers a pure robotics course of study, combined with subject areas such as mobile robotics, agricultural robotics or robotics in automation, says Prof. Dr.
Tobias Weiser, scientific director of the IKR.
On the one hand, the research and transfer center is intended to train young scientists and to enable subject-specific exchange between the institute and companies in the region.
“It is the declared goal of the IKR to serve companies both as a sparring partner for the development of new solutions and as a source of ideas,” says Weiser.
Prestige property for the Ostallgäu district and the city of Marktoberdorf
Last April, Minister Blume brought the funding notice for 3.5 million euros to the district town.
The inauguration could now be celebrated just eleven months later, thanks to the considerable commitment of owner Carl Singer, as has been emphasized several times.
The prestigious project, which was promoted jointly by the city, district, university and politicians, received broad approval.
The city covers the rental costs for the approximately 450 square meter building on Schwabenstrasse.
Minister Blume: “Confident location”
On the day of the inauguration, all speakers were full of praise and anticipation: University President Prof. Dr.
Wolfgang Hauke.
His vision is not only to survive the “trial period” well, but also to make such strong progress in the next few years that the basic state funding and the future of the IKR are secured.
“A university with a firm plan,” praised Minister Blume, and “a particularly courageous, agile and self-confident location.” The ChatGPT quoted above would also learn that.
District Administrator Zinnecker and Marktoberdorf's mayor also agreed: Marktoberdorf is a city of Mächler, where entrepreneurs and innovations go hand in hand.
After Füssen, the IKR is now the second branch of Kempten University in Ostallgäu.
