The verbal exchange of blows between Turkey and Israel continues.
Both countries accuse each other of war crimes.
Ankara – The tone between Israel and Turkey is becoming increasingly rough.
“What is happening in Gaza is definitely not a war, but an attempt at genocide,” said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Diplomacy Forum in Ankara on Friday (March 1).
In Gaza, not only are children, women and civilians being brutally murdered, but billions of people's trust in the international system, the judiciary and the law are also being destroyed.
The answer from Israel did not take long to arrive.
“Erdogan, who has repeatedly carried out massacres against Kurds in Turkey and the region, accuses Israel of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
We are not like you.
We are fighting against Hamas, your accomplices who harbor you in Turkey and who enable you to commit massacres and murders.
You should be silent and ashamed!” wrote Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Twitter the same day – in Hebrew and also in Turkish.
Erdogan calls Israel a terrorist state that is committing genocide
Erdogan had also previously attacked Israel over the Gaza war and drawn comparisons with Hitler.
"Today's 'leader' Netanyahu and his team are committing barbarities that amount to genocide," Erdogan said in January while visiting a marine unit in the western Turkish province of Yalova.
The Turkish President also described Israel as a terrorist state.
Similar in December.
At that time, Erdogan also compared the Israeli Prime Minister to Adolf Hitler.
“Is there anything Netanyahu did less than Hitler?
No,” he said at the time.
Israel firmly rejected Erdogan's statements.
“His words are deeply offensive to every Jew around the world,” Israeli President Izchak Herzog said at the time.

Türkiye safe haven for Hamas
Turkey is a safe haven for the radical Islamic group Hamas.
There have been repeated meetings between Hamas and the Turkish government in the past.
Erdogan had also warned the Israeli secret service against carrying out actions against Hamas in his country.
Palestinian President Mahmut Abbas is expected in Ankara on Tuesday, Erdogan announced.
It should be about help for the Palestinians and a ceasefire.

HRW accuses Türkiye of war crimes against Kurds in northern Syria
The accusations from Israel against Erdogan are not unfounded.
According to the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW), Turkey is committing “possible war crimes” in the areas it occupies in northern Syria.
“The main victims of the attacks are the Kurds living in the region due to their alleged connections to the Kurdish-led troops who control large parts of northeastern Syria.”
HRW documented kidnappings, arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, sexual violence and torture by Turkish-backed jihadist militias.
“Human Rights Watch also found that Turkish troops and intelligence services were involved in carrying out and overseeing attacks.”
In Turkey, however, these issues are kept quiet.
This is mainly because dozens of journalists remain in prison and hundreds have fled into exile for fear of persecution.
