The police are deployed with a large contingent.

The all-clear is given in the afternoon.

Erfurt - There was a threat of a shooting at a regular school in Erfurt on Wednesday.

The school management informed the police about an anonymous call shortly after 10 a.m. in which an “assault” was announced, the situation center said.

The school was evacuated.

Officials led students and teachers out of the building behind the barriers, as a dpa photographer reported.

The evacuation was calm and controlled.

According to police, 330 students and 20 teachers and staff had to leave the school.

In the afternoon the all-clear was given and the large-scale operation was ended.

Officials had previously secured the school and cordoned off the area.

The streets around the building were cordoned off.

Some of the officers on site wore protective equipment and weapons.

The police were on duty with a large contingent.

No information was initially given as to exactly what type of crime was threatened.

According to a police spokeswoman, nothing suspicious was discovered.

It was said that there were no indications of a dangerous situation on site.

The younger students were handed over to their parents in a nearby building at the University of Applied Sciences for Architecture and Urban Planning.

According to their own statements, the police initiated proceedings for disturbing the public peace by threatening to commit crimes.

Classes will resume as normal on Thursday, it was said.

There had recently been heated discussions about the future of the school.

According to media reports, the school was to be closed to make way for a new high school.

At the end of February, however, the city council decided that a new high school would be founded in the building in the summer and that regular and high school students would be taught there together in the next two school years.
