This Tuesday morning, a 46-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell at the detention center located on Ile-Saint-Étienne in Melun.

It was a supervisor who made the macabre discovery shortly before 7:30 a.m.

According to our information, confirmed by the public prosecutor of Melun, the prisoner's death occurred during the night from Monday to Tuesday, probably caused by an injury to a carotid artery.

As part of the investigation entrusted to police officers from the Melun Val de Seine national police station, an autopsy should take place soon.

To end his life, the forty-year-old would have used the blade of a disposable razor.

According to the Melun public prosecutor's office, he had been behind bars since 2020 following an affair of a sexual nature.

Facts that earned him a sentence of thirteen years of criminal imprisonment by the Hauts-de-Seine Assize Court in Nanterre.

He was due to be released in October 2030.
