Since the market square was converted to be barrier-free, butchers and ice cream parlors have been under water during heavy rain, and restaurant rooms and cellars are full.

That's why construction is starting again on the market square from today.

The municipality is improving flood protection in this area.

Indersdorf – water, water and even more water.

The beer garden of the Butchers restaurant on the Indersdorf market square is flooded by around 20 centimeters, and masses of water are pushing through the doors of the restaurant and ice cream parlor next door.

The cellars quickly become flooded.

Herbert Forche, owner of Butchers, obviously doesn't like to remember the heavy rain event last August.

“The water came rushing towards the bar like a river, flooded the beer garden, went into the bar and the ice cream parlor and from there into the cellars,” remembers Forche.

This problem has only occurred during heavy rain events since the market square was rebuilt.

“The water used to go past the house, now it flows straight in.” The result: immense damage to the floors and in the basement.

Forche is very happy that the community is now strengthening flood protection at the market square.

During heavy rain, the water rushed like a river over the stairs at the Butchers beer garden.

Mayor Franz Obesser and the head of the Technical Building Authority, Andrea Waltinger, explained at the most recent municipal council meeting why work had to be done again on the market square after such a short time.

It was important for Obesser to emphasize two things: Firstly, “the marketplace drainage works.

There was no mistake.” On the other hand, it was important to him to explain why the municipality is ensuring “property protection” there: “In this case, the situation has worsened for the homeowner because we have made the market square barrier-free.

And we now want to fix this problem.” In other words, the municipality will not initiate any construction work in the future because cellars are filling up somewhere; the owners themselves are still responsible for this.

So why does the new marketplace need additional flood protection?

Franz Obesser explained that the drainage works normally, but is “not equipped for an extreme event”.

Andrea Waltinger also emphasized: The drainage is designed for standard rain events.

As has been the case for years.”

But since the house with bar and ice cream parlor has already been under water three times since the market square was renovated, something has to happen.

Waltinger explained: “In the last two years, these design rainfall events have been far exceeded three times.” So improvements are now being made.

The plan calls for “wide and efficient box gutters to be installed above the stairs at Butchers instead of the existing slot gutters”.

Because as photos and videos of the heavy rain last August show, for example: the water simply shoots over the gutter.

That's why in the future "plant troughs will slow down the flow speed" on the upper steps.

In addition, a gully should be installed in the area in front of the building in order to divert water that flows onto the area from the side below the large gutters, explained Waltinger.

But that's not all: “In addition, a relief hole in the area of the small channel in the wall at the ice cream parlor should provide additional protection.

This hole then drains directly into the green area below, which is filled with empty gravel.

The measure is estimated to cost a total of 120,000 euros.

Marktgasse is closed from today

Due to the street drainage work, the Marktgasse in the area of the butcher and the ice cream parlor is completely closed from today until April 5th.

The diversion takes place via Wöhrerstraße-Sportplatzweg.

In addition, trenching work will take place in front of the Butschers and the ice cream parlor during this period, according to the community.

There are restrictions for pedestrians and parking spaces at the market square.

Access and access to the affected buildings is possible, but there will be temporary disruptions.

The municipality emphasizes that residents will be informed in good time by the construction company about planned closures of property access roads.
