Highlights: Hidden doors are the hottest trend in interior design in Israel. When done correctly, they can radically change the structure of the space. The doors can be made of almost any material or covered with the texture of the wall. The trick is to produce an architectural manipulation so that those who do not live in the house will not be aware that they exist at all, says interior designer Zvia Kazioff. "As such, its location must be planned at the initial stage of the renovation and it requires the preparation of blind frames that are already installed during construction," she says.

When done correctly, interior design has the power to radically change the structure of the space.

Ask quite a few Israelis who chose to design hidden doors in their new home, behind which entire wings are hidden.

Yes, the contemporary concept of planning advocates a complete separation between public and private, between primary and secondary - on the face of it this is not a complex matter, but it turns out that in order to create it it is important to prepare in advance.

According to the interior designer Zvia Kazioff, those hidden passages allow the planner to create a more sophisticated living environment for the members of the house that does not reveal the location of the various functions: "Their implementation is carried out according to the need and the situation and from any material - thus it is possible to create holistic spaces both in terms of design and visibility ", she explains.

"We Israelis often host, but at the same time we love our privacy and we don't really like that one guest or another is mistakenly led to the bedroom wing or the private bathrooms. Those hidden passages allow us to create a hierarchy between the wings and to humble elements and when they are done correctly it is very difficult to know that the private wing is behind them Or alternatively, the MMAD door that we saw knowing how important it is and yet it is aesthetically challenging.

"At the same time, this is a fantastic solution for apartments and houses with a relatively tight budget: as soon as we create a complete buffer between the public and private wing, it will be possible to invest a respectable share in the luxurious public wing, where we host and spend our leisure time, and on the other hand, we will design the private wing as more practical and modest, which will still work great with The accommodation spaces if the passage is open. Meanwhile, the separation between the wings is also optimal in terms of acoustics and noise masking and is excellent in apartments or houses where couples live who like to entertain in the evening and do not want to impair the sleep quality of the children who are not participating in the celebration, just a few hours before a new day in kindergarten Or at school."

According to Kazioff, each case is examined on its own merits and these transitions can be created in many formats: "The trick is to produce an architectural manipulation so that those who do not live in the house will not be aware that they exist at all. The doors are completely integrated as an integral part of the wall, and this is a successful option, especially in apartments whose original design includes short walls and non-functional. This is the case, for example, in many of the contractor's apartments, the corridor that leads to the wing of the rooms cuts a long and continuous axis, and thus the wall on which we would like to plan the TV screen, a library or a sideboard loses its power. The hidden door can be made of almost any material or covered with the texture of the wall, even when it is for example a wall Exposed concrete. The proportions of the axis change radically, the central wall becomes continuous and as a result the public space is interpreted as larger - the space looks impressive and representative and performs excellently in the functional aspect as well

. Mimic the texture and shade of the wall on top of the door itself.

This is a challenging detail, but an interior designer knows how to handle it carefully and recruit the right professionals who will achieve the best result."

"A zero line door is actually a door in the plane of the front of the wall, when in practice it comes as an aluminum wing or a pile of wood that serves as a base on which to install cladding of any kind and depending on the color and nature of the space in which the door is located," according to interior designer Liyad Yosef.

"As such, its location must be planned already at the initial stage of the renovation and it requires the preparation of blind frames that are already installed during the construction phase. By the way, in the event that preparation is done in advance, a mezuzah frame can be recessed so that those who invest in early planning will benefit. We are seeing an increasing use of this excellent solution and variations Variety and one of the great advantages lies in the fact that high doors can be produced up to the height of the ceiling, which enhances the sense of height in the space and creates visual continuity that looks great."

According to Yosef, in most projects they are used when there are spaces that we would like to reduce.

"For example, the guest services, which usually invest a lot in their interior design, and still in a large part of the contractor's apartments, they are located in strategic areas - usually in the living room or kitchen area. Therefore, we would like to obscure the opening that leads to them as part of the wall, and this is also true for warehouses and pantries, which we would like the access to be decorative and assimilated as part of Integral to the space. On the other hand, in some areas the tendency is actually to distinguish and emphasize these openings by painting the door frame in a different color than the door color - this way we will have a delicate frame that enhances the modern look - polished."

"In long and wide corridors, where we need creative storage solutions, the tendency is to produce zero-line doors that open with a touch," adds the designer.

"Thus, the facades of the corridor look like a wall, but in fact there are a lot of closets and compartments hidden throughout. This is, by the way, an excellent way to also hide the electrical and communication systems, which naturally we would like to keep as modest as possible."

"These doors have another significant advantage," says Yosef: "Since the door leaf comes as a bare skeleton, you can choose a completely different covering for each of the sides, and thus the door can be perfectly adapted to the functions that are located on each side. For example, a hidden door, which leads from the corridor of the rooms to the bathroom , the exterior can be painted in the color of the vestibule wall and the interior can be covered with marble or fine porcelain tiles that we used to cover the bathroom. So, when the door is closed, the feeling you get is that of staying in a kind of perfect and meticulous box."
