The Mediterranean episode which swept through the Alpes-Maritimes last weekend indirectly caused the death of a patrolman on the A8 motorway on Sunday.
A dramatic accident actually occurred in the town of La Turbie, near the French-Italian border, causing the death of an Escota (Vinci Autoroutes) employee.
Four people, including two gendarmes, were also injured.
In a press release, Vinci spoke the same day of
"a terrible accident"
caused in
"unacceptable circumstances"
by
"a crazy car"
that came to hit the patrollers in intervention, the gendarmes and the repairers who were assisting a first damaged vehicle and to its occupants, after having put in place markings to secure the area.

Manslaughter
Slightly injured, the motorist involved was then briefly hospitalized before being placed in police custody at the Nice research brigade.
At the end of its hearings, the Nice prosecutor's office announced this Wednesday at the beginning of the afternoon that the man would be referred during the day with a view to his indictment, as part of an open judicial investigation of counts of “involuntary manslaughter” and “unintentional injury”.
The prosecution specifies that it has requested his placement in pre-trial detention.
The motorist could therefore sleep in prison this evening.
It is now up to a judge of freedoms and detention (JLD) to decide on the fate of this individual before his judgment.
According to Vinci, who quickly decided to file a complaint for homicide, the images from the A8's cameras
“evidence very excessive speed and dangerous driving on the part of the driver of the crazy car”.
