On Tuesday, the traffic light coalition presented a new pension package.

There is resistance in the opposition CDU - the reforms do not go far enough for them.

Stuttgart - The pension package II presented by the traffic light coalition is met with criticism - especially from the opposition.

The pension package is “not suitable for making pensions future-proof,” criticized CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann in the newspapers of the Funke media group.

It brings “no relief, but only additional burdens for employees, employers and the federal budget,” warned CSU social expert Stephan Stracke.

CDU in Baden-Württemberg wants a reform of the retirement age

The CDU parliamentary group has now proposed concrete steps on how to respond to the pension package: According to their wishes, the Baden-Württemberg state government should advocate for a reform of the retirement age in the Federal Council.

CDU MP Winfried Mack said on Wednesday in the state parliament in Stuttgart that he agreed with Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens)'s request to link the retirement age to life expectancy.

“We ask the Finance Minister: Where is the Federal Council initiative on this?

We want to have a Federal Council initiative on this.”

On Tuesday, the federal government presented a pension reform package that is intended to stabilize pension levels and slow down the expected increase in pension contributions.

The package is intended to guarantee the pension level of 48 percent for the future.

Because this costs more money, but pension contributions should not increase too much, the financing should be placed on an additional footing.

Criticism of the pension package: the retirement age should be increased additionally

Baden-Württemberg's Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz had accused the pension package of a lack of honesty and again called for the retirement age to be based more closely on life expectancy.

Mack also criticized the fact that the pension contribution should increase from the current 18.6 percent to 22.3 percent in the next few years due to the aging population.

As a result, non-wage labor costs rose - and that means fewer workers and less prosperity, says Mack.
