Highlights: Pirelli aims for Net Zero in 2040, the first tire in the world. The group wants to become the first company in the tire sector to reduce the absolute emissions of Scope 1, 2 and 31 greenhouse gases by at least 90% compared to the reference year 2018. By 2025 all factories globally will use 100% of renewable electricity. By 2030, 75% of vulcanization presses will be electrified. In line with the commitment to safeguarding the forestry heritage from which the natural rubber derives, from the 2024 season it will introduce the FSC certification on all tires produced and used in F1.

After having further improved sustainability performance during 2023, in line with the objective of 'carbon neutrality' in 2030, Pirelli has set itself the Net Zero objective by 2040. The group, by updating the industrial plan, also reviews its sustainability targets and wants to become the first company in the tire sector to reduce the absolute emissions of Scope 1, 2 and 31 greenhouse gases (GHG) by at least 90% compared to the reference year 2018.

In the decarbonisation path, Pirelli foresees an intermediate objective set for 2027, the year by which it undertakes to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions by -62% for Scope 1 and 2 and by -28% for Scope 3, compared to 2018.

For this reason, by 2025 all factories globally will use 100% of renewable electricity (target already achieved for factories in Europe, North America and Latam); by 2030, 75% of vulcanization presses will be electrified.

In terms of raw materials, it plans to constantly increase the quantity of materials of non-fossil origin in its products.

The P Zero E already today contains more than 55% of materials of natural origin and recycled materials, a result higher than the target of the previous plan which envisaged the use of 43% of renewable materials by 2025 on selected product lines.

Furthermore, for all product lines, Pirelli will use bio-based and recycled materials equal to 30% in 2025 and 40% in 2030. In line with the commitment to safeguarding the forestry heritage from which the natural rubber derives, from the 2024 season it will introduce the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification on all tires produced and used in F1.

By 2026 the goal is to bring 100% FSC certified natural rubber into European production.

But sustainability also passes through the Zero Accidents objective, with an expected injury frequency index of approximately 1 by 2025 compared to 1.74 in 2023 (number of accidents at work per one million hours worked).
