Dark figures with long beards took advantage of the opportunity: at the strong beer festival in Ascholding, they launched a political all-round attack.

Ascholding - On Saturday evening, over 200 guests at the Holzwirt inn in Ascholding witnessed an Upper Bavarian custom that has been forgotten in many places: the Haberfeldtreib - a reprimand by disguised men with long beards - was the highlight of the strong beer festival.

“Have fun and a good beer,” Kaspar Harrer wished the expectant visitors.

The chairman of the Ascholding theater group was pleased that the hall was full with a striking number of young people, almost all of whom appeared in Bavarian costume.

He also welcomed the mayor of Dietramszell, Josef Hauser, who had already visited the strong beer festival in Wolfratshausen the evening before, and the former mayor Hans Demmel.

Ascholdinger brass music heats things up

Before the Haberfeld celebrations, the Ascholdinger brass band heated up the mood with snappy classics such as the “Weinkeller-Polka” and the “High Regards March” composed by Herbert Pixner.

Conductor Sebastian Kastenmüller sometimes jumped up like a wisp and cheered the musicians on again and again.

When the band put their instruments aside after 90 minutes, the hall darkened.

Instead of folk music, the sound of bells, howls and hoots of owls could be heard when the Haber field drivers entered.

The executioner from the broom-maker's court, the chairman for keeping the bells ringing and other upstanding citizens positioned themselves stomping on the stage.

“Let's take it to Haberfeld, the wickedness of the world,” demanded the main speaker.

He first looked back on the deprivation Corona period and settled accounts with Bavaria's Prime Minister.

“When Söder has his sights on power, he doesn’t shy away from anything,” raged the Haberer master.

Above all, Söder, who was born in Franconia, met with media attention for his tree hugs.

“If trees could puke, they would,” the executioner speculated.

But the Greens' energy-saving plans were also a thorn in his side.

It was helpful that thanks to the Ascholdinger biogas plant, the supposed temporary power outage in the Holzwirt was quickly resolved.

In between, a doppelganger of Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner, sitting on a mini tractor, drove through the rows of the audience.

A sign with the inscription “My wife has a horse, I am also a farmer, I am one of you” and a rocking horse satirically satirized the FDP politician's statement.

Audience laughs at local political tips

Aside from the attacks on the federal government's policies, the audience laughed at many local political tips.

The morning bell ringing at the Dietramszell pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard would only disturb new residents and alpaca herds.

Local farmers who have to get up early, on the other hand, need this wake-up call because of their urge to urinate.

“The farmer's day would be ruined if he went to bed at 5:10 a.m.,” blasphemed the Haberer court.

There was also a lot of ridicule left for the Ascholdingen gastronomy, which was enriched by the café in the Edeka market and the new fire department building.

The beer tap there looks suspiciously like a fire hydrant.

In response to the accuser's recurring question, “Haberer, is it true?”, the other hooded figures always responded with “It's true!” and a clatter of their sticks.

After half an hour the spook was over, but not the lively strong beer festival in the Holzwirt.
