The Farchant local council is discussing an e-car sharing project - but is postponing the topic.

The mayor questions whether the municipality is really responsible for this.

She now wants to make contact with companies.

Farchant – E-car sharing is becoming increasingly popular.

The community use of an electric vehicle in an organized manner has now also occupied the Farchant local council.

The SPD had submitted an application to look for suitable locations and inquire about potential providers.

But after the discussion in the committee it was clear: “We will put the topic on hold and contact the Explorer Hotel or other businesses in Farchant,” Christian Hornsteiner (CSU) announced the unanimous decision.

The local councilors discussed the advantages and disadvantages of e-car sharing.

The mayor was particularly interested in whether it was the municipality's responsibility to take on the implementation of this project.

So far, the “shared car” has not been implemented by any municipality, but only by companies, energy suppliers or associations such as Ammer-Loisach-Energie, said Hornsteiner.

The Explorer Hotel was mentioned as a possible partner.

In principle, a central location should be chosen for e-car sharing, the administration suggested the town hall.

Profitability difficult to assess: “Difficult for the community”

The user group is also difficult to estimate - tourists, business people or private individuals - hardly predictable, reported Hornsteiner.

Given the unclear frequency of use and the costs of 7,200 euros per year - plus setup and maintenance - the profitability is difficult to assess.

“From an economic point of view, it is difficult for the community because there are always costs,” emphasizes the town hall boss.

There are three e-charging points from the Farchant power plant for electric vehicles in town.

That's why the community contacted this company, which immediately presented a concept.

Accordingly, the costs for an e-car would be divided as follows: The Farchant power plant bears a third of the expenses (300 euros per month) and receives the income from use.

And the municipality pays for two thirds (600 euros per month) and can use the car for the administration's own trips free of charge.

In addition, there is a one-off cost of around 3,000 euros for the setup.

Advantage of Kraftwerk Farchant's proposal: The community could sell its Citroen, which costs around 1,500 euros annually.

But: City Hall boss Hornsteiner announced that a vehicle would always be available for emergencies and unforeseen events and that the Citroen should not be sold.

In addition, the local councilors discussed, among other things, possible damage from e-car sharing, which the user must check before starting the journey, the duration and the security of subsequent bookings.
