Ukrainian naval drones are said to have become fatal to another Russian warship.
This time the corvette “Sergei Kotov” was probably hit.
Kiev – On the night of March 5th, Ukrainian-made Magura V5 naval drones are said to have destroyed the Russian corvette “Sergey Kotov” near the Kerch Strait.
This was reported by the Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine (HUR) on Telegram.
The ship suffered hits to the stern, starboard and port sides that ultimately sank the $65 million corvette, the post continued.
Meanwhile, the HUR also published a video from the perspective of the attacking drones heading towards the enemy ship.
There are at least four hits followed by explosions.
While the leadership under Vladimir Putin has not yet commented on the incident, several Russian military bloggers also reported the destruction of the “Sergey Kotov”, including the Rybar blog, which is close to the Defense Ministry.
The Telegram channel Krimwind, which claims to report on events in Crimea and Sevastopol, published a video that also shows the moment of the attack.
He received it after a call to his subscribers on Telegram.
It shows how an unidentified ship with a superstructure fires glowing volleys into the darkness before a small and then a large explosion occurs on its hull.
Crimean bridge closed: Navy drones probably sink Russian warship
Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for HUR, told
Radio Free Europe
that the Sergey Kotov was definitely destroyed this time, after a previous attack failed in July 2023.
There were also dead and wounded on the Russian side, he continued, while some crew members managed to save themselves.
Yusow spoke of at least 10 ambulances being called.
The report that the attack took place near the Kerch Strait is consistent with the fact that the Crimean Bridge, which runs across this strait,
was closed for hours on the night of March 5 , according to the Ukrainian media
Hromadske .
There are said to have been explosions there.
The Crimean Bridge was closed on the night of March 2nd to 3rd when Russia claims to have intercepted 38 Ukrainian drones over Crimea.
According to the
Kyiv Independent,
explosions occurred that night at an oil depot near Feodosiya.

While Volodymyr Zelenskyj's army went on the defensive in the Ukraine war, at the latest after the Russian success in Avdiivka, the HUR and the navy repeatedly carried out successful attacks on the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Because Ukraine no longer has its own warships, a number of long-range and guided missiles are used, which also come from its own production.

A new tactic of Ukraine in the naval war against Russia
In the spring of 2022, the landing ship “Saratov” fell victim to old Soviet missiles and the flagship “Moskva” fell victim to Ukraine's first Neptune anti-ship missiles.
The Olenegorsky Gornyak, another landing ship, was the first Ukrainian naval drone to record a major kill in August 2023.
Ukrainian decision-makers also seem to value the British Storm Shadow cruise missiles for attacks on Russian warships.

These weapons from the West probably took out numerous ships in the Black Sea Fleet.
Why are Russian landing ships hit so often?
Russia has not used them anywhere to carry out a combat landing on Ukrainian shores.
Instead, they are primarily used to transport supplies to the war zone, especially when the Crimean Bridge, which is otherwise the main transport artery, is closed again.
In recent months, Ukraine has apparently shifted its anti-ship tactics to the massed use of swarms of its Magura V5 naval drones.
This is probably how the “Sergey Kotow” also perished.
