Update from March 6th, 5:20 a.m.:

California also clearly goes to Donald Trump.

The major US broadcasters proclaimed Trump the winner over his rival Nikki Haley on Tuesday (March 5, local time) shortly after the polls closed in the state on the US West Coast.

California has 169 delegates in the election of the Republican presidential candidate - more than any other state.

With his success in California, Trump won in at least twelve of the 15 states that voted on super primary day.

Update from March 6th, 5:15 a.m.:

At least American Samoa has a surprise to offer: US President Joe Biden lost the Democratic primary in the US territory.

As the television channels

CNN

and

NBC

reported, the entrepreneur Jason Palmer prevailed against the incumbent US President.

Accordingly, 51 of the 91 votes cast went to Jason and only 40 to Biden.

The result hardly plays a role in the party's internal primaries.

In the outlying area with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, which is part of a tiny group of islands in the South Pacific, only six delegate votes were up for grabs.

Biden has won all of his party's primaries so far.

He has no serious internal party competition.

Trump has won eleven of the 15 states so far

Update from March 6th, 4:40 a.m.:

Donald Trump has already won eleven of the 15 states in which voting took place.

According to forecasts from US broadcasters, the Republican won against his internal party rival Nikki Haley in the states of Arkansas, Alabama, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

“Super Tuesday” in the USA: Trump also gets Californiaread

Update from March 6th, 4:15 a.m.:

It works with Minnesota

next state to Donald Trump.

The broadcasters Fox News, NBC and CNN reported this unanimously, citing their own forecasts.

As expected, Trump's competitor Nikki Haley suffered a defeat.

Update from March 6th, 4:00 a.m.:

A very special triumph for Trump is the victory in the state.

According to forecasts from NBC and Fox News, the 77-year-old clearly won the race on Tuesday evening (local time) against his competitor Nikki Haley.

The “Mountain State” in the western USA with its capital Denver has almost six million inhabitants.

In the Republican primaries there were 37 of the 2,429 delegate votes up for grabs.

In the race for the candidacy, Colorado was particularly important because Trump was initially removed from the party primaries in the state.

However, the decision was suspended pending clarification by the US Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court declared the action unlawful last Monday (March 4).

Plaintiffs also sought to prevent Trump from participating in the primaries in other various states.

Trump wins Massachusetts

Update from March 6th, 3:33 a.m.:

Donald Trump also wins the primary election in Massachusetts.

The broadcasters

NBC News

and

Fox News

report this unanimously, citing their own forecasts.

Trump's competitor Nikki Haley suffers the next defeat after it looked like a neck-and-neck race for a while.

Update from March 6th, 3:22 a.m.:

Donald Trump's triumph on Super Tuesday continues: The

Associated Press

also predicts the former president's success in the state of Colorado.

Update from March 6th, 3:10 a.m.:

The US broadcaster

CNN

now also reports Donald Trump's victory in the states of Arkansas and Maine.

Trump marches through on Super Tuesday: ex-president wins primaries in Texas and Alabama

Update from March 6th, 3:05 a.m.:

Texas is another state that Donald Trump will win on Super Tuesday.

This is what the US media predicts unanimously.

Update from March 6th, 2:56 a.m.:

The next success for Donald Trump: According to the

Associated Press,

the ex-president also wins the primary election in Alabama.

The deep red state was seen as a tough sell for Nikki Haley from the start.

Trump's competitor could still hope for a victory in Vermont and Massachusetts on today's Super Tuesday - but otherwise it looks like Trump will win.

Super Tuesday primaries: Trump wins in Oklahoma and Tennessee

Update from March 6th, 2:44 a.m.:

It should be mentioned at this point that the incumbent US President Joe Biden is also winning one state after another in the democratic primaries on Super Tuesday.

However, this is not surprising.

Update from March 6th, 2:23 a.m.:

According to several US forecasts, Donald Trump will also secure the southern state of Oklahoma on Super Tuesday.

So far, the ex-president has dominated the Republican primaries.

In Massachusetts, where Nikki Haley is currently slightly ahead of her competitor, there could be a little surprise this night.

Update from March 6th, 2:16 a.m.: The

Associated Press

is also predicting

a victory for Donald Trump in Tennessee.

CNN,

meanwhile, reports that Trump has – unsurprisingly – a large lead over Nikki Haley in Texas.

Trump dominates Super Tuesday: Former president probably secures primary election in North Carolina

Update from March 6, 2:04 a.m.:

Polling stations in Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Tennessee are closed.

There are no initial forecasts for the Super Tuesday duel between Trump and Haley;

“too early to call” – the experts still need a few minutes.

The Republicans have a total of 211 delegates at stake.

Update from March 6th, 1:33 a.m.: According to

CNN

forecasts, Trump will also emerge as the winner in North Carolina

.

In North Carolina, 74 delegates were at stake.

Update from March 6, 1:28 a.m

.: Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley in the Republican primary in Virginia, the

Associated Press

reports - Trump's first triumph on Super Tuesday.

First predictions for Super Tuesday: Trump is ahead of Haley in Virginia and Vermont

Update from March 6th, 1:03 a.m.:

The polling stations in Virginia and Vermont are now closed.

According to initial forecasts from the US broadcaster

CNN,

Donald Trump is well ahead of Haley in both states.

However, the numbers will still level off.

Update from March 6th, 12:32 a.m.:

Nikki Haley is unlikely to have much of a chance against her internal party competitor Donald Trump.

According to your campaign team, no public events are planned for today's Super Tuesday - and therefore apparently no press conference.

It was previously speculated that Haley could withdraw her candidacy if she lost in the primary elections on Wednesday night.

Super Tuesday: The first Republican primary results probably come from Vermont and Virginia

Update from March 5th, 11:50 p.m.:

While the focus on Super Tuesday is on the Republicans, the Democrats are also holding their primaries on Wednesday night.

President Biden has won the Iowa caucuses, which were conducted entirely by mail this year,

the

Associated Press reports.

The Republicans, on the other hand, asked their voters in Iowa for their votes last January.

Speaking of Republicans: in the duel between Nikki Haley and Donald Trump, the first results could come from the east coast states of Virginia and Vermont.

This is reported by the

New York Times

.

But here too, the first numbers will be made public in the middle of the night.

Update from March 5th, 10:43 p.m.:

In order to win the Republican Party nomination, Donald Trump or Nikki Haley need at least 1,215 of the 2,429 delegates on their side.

A total of 874 delegates are at stake next night, around 36 percent of all Republican delegates - so Super Tuesday lives up to its name.

Trump has already secured 273 delegates.

But even if he were to collect all 854 delegates available on Super Tuesday, the ex-president would still not be able to crack the 1,215.

Super Tuesday: Joe Biden will be 'kept updated' on results

Update from March 5th, 9:28 p.m.:

US President Joe Biden will be “kept informed” about the results of the primaries on Super Tuesday, as his press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told the press in the White House.

“He will be aware of what is going on tonight as we watch the elections across the country,” she continued.

Biden returned to the White House on Tuesday from the Camp David presidential retreat, where he spent the weekend with his team of advisers preparing for next Thursday's State of the Union address.

Biden is also expected to come down hard on his future rival - most likely Donald Trump - in the speech.

Super Tuesday primaries: The counting will take the longest in California

Update from March 5th, 8:39 p.m.:

While the first results from California are not expected until Wednesday morning, the final result will probably only be known after several days or even a few weeks.

The background is the high number of postal voters in the “Golden State”.

Every letter must be checked several times to rule out possible election fraud.

For example, if a signature does not match the submitted documents, the responsible electoral authorities would have to contact the person concerned and give them the opportunity to correct the signature or resolve any possible doubts.

It's a familiar waiting game that the state of California has become known for.

Update from March 5th, 7:48 p.m.:

The first results in the Super Tuesday primaries are not expected until Wednesday morning.

While the polling stations in Alabama close at 2 a.m. German time, voting continues until 5 a.m. in California and 6 a.m. in Alaska.

Haley attacks former president before Super Tuesday: “Maybe Donald Trump is the problem?”

Update from March 5th, 6:33 p.m.:

In a final election commercial before Super Tuesday, Nikki Haley attacked Donald Trump and blamed him for the Republicans' defeats.

“We lost in 2018, we lost in 2020 and we lost in 2022,” the UN ambassador said in a video she posted on Twitter (X).

Haley was alluding to the Republicans' defeats in the midterm elections in Congress and in the 2020 US elections.

Haley left no doubt who was responsible for this: “How many times do we have to lose before we admit to ourselves: Maybe Donald Trump is the problem?”

Update from March 5th, 5:23 p.m.:

Would Nikki Haley support Donald Trump as a candidate in the 2024 US election if he wins the primaries?

The former UN ambassador has not yet wanted to give any guarantees about this.

Haley told Fox News

on

the day of Super Tuesday.

“I haven't heard yet that he has promised to support me if I win.

So I don’t know why approach him and promise to support him.”

Traditionally, Republicans have a duty of loyalty.

Whoever loses the primaries supports their own candidate in a duel with the Democrats.

In the run-up to Super Tuesday, Haley had indicated, according to CNN, that she did not feel bound by this commandment.

Winter storm could impact Super Tuesday primary election

Update from March 5th, 3:30 p.m.:

In the US primaries on Super Tuesday, the weather in the respective states can also have an impact on how many people end up going to the polling station.

Heavy rain and snowfall is expected in several states on Super Tuesday.

A winter storm is expected to continue to rage, especially in Northern California, Utah and Colorado.

This was reported by the

New York Times

.

Two coastal storms would also impact the weather in the majority of other states hosting primaries on Tuesday.

Rainfall could be heavier, especially in Alabama.

The primaries in 15 states on Super Tuesday are seen as a signpost for the Republican presidential candidacy.

Super Tuesday in the US election campaign – preliminary decision for Donald Trump?

Update from March 5th, 11:49 a.m.:

The next milestone in the presidential election campaign in the USA is coming up today.

On Super Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans will hold their primaries in more than a dozen states.

Can Donald Trump finally pull the plug on his rival Nikki Haley on this day?

Not formally yet.

Although 865 of a total of 2,429 delegate votes are up for election, that is not enough.

Even if Trump won all the votes, he wouldn't have reached his goal yet.

But he would come significantly closer to the 1215 vote mark.

So far, Trump has 273 votes, Haley has 43.

That's how many delegates Trump and Haley collected before Super Tuesday

  • Nikki Haley: 43

  • Ron DeSantis (retired): 9

  • Vivek Ramaswamy (eliminated): 3

Super Tuesday in the USA: Trump starts with victory

First reported:

Washington, DC.

– The time has come: In primary elections in a total of 15 states in the USA, voters will vote on the presidential candidates for the 2024 US election for the Democrats and Republicans on Tuesday (March 5th).

In the most populous states of California and Texas, among others, a decision will be made on so-called Super Tuesday.

Among the Republicans, ex-President Donald Trump is heading for the re-nomination for the highest state office.

Trump has clearly won almost all previous primaries.

As expected, the 77-year-old also won the Republican party's internal vote on the presidential candidacy in the state of North Dakota on Monday evening.

The voting marathon is a little less tense this time because the result has been apparent for some time.

Duel with Donald Trump: What will Haley decide after Super Tuesday?

Trump's only remaining intra-party rival, former governor and ambassador Nikki Haley, could drop out of the race if she experiences another serious defeat on Super Tuesday.

Haley won one of the primaries for the first time on Sunday, but only in the capital district of Washington, which is considered a stronghold of Trump opponents and is not very significant in terms of numbers in the race.

Among the Democrats, President Joe Biden is almost certain to run again.

Voting takes place in Alabama, California, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia, among others.

The vote will be taken to decide who should run as a candidate for each party in the presidential election at the beginning of November.

After the national primaries have concluded, the two major US parties will formally select their candidates for the presidential election in November at party conferences in the summer.

Democrats' Super Tuesday: No competition for Biden

For the Democrats, incumbent Joe Biden wants to run for another term.

The 81-year-old US President has no serious competition in his party's internal race.

At the moment everything indicates that Biden and Trump will ultimately compete against each other again.

Supreme Court rules in Trump's favor before Super Tuesday

And Trump was able to claim another significant success on Monday.

The Republican successfully fended off attempts by his opponents to exclude him from the presidential race.

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Colorado and other states have no authority to remove Republicans from the party primary ballot.

Instead, this lies with the US Congress.

This part of the decision was no longer unanimous.

For four judges, this determination went too far.

With the decision, the court provided clarity shortly before the important primary election day “Super Tuesday”.

Although the decision was not a surprise, it was still of great consequence.

Plaintiffs have been trying for some time in various states to prevent Trump from participating in the primaries and to have the 77-year-old's name removed from ballot papers.

The background to the dispute is the unprecedented attack on the US parliament building almost exactly three years ago.

Trump supporters violently stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021.

Congress met there to formally confirm Democrat Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election.

Trump still doesn't recognize it today.

What happens next after the US primaries?

The Republican and Democratic primaries run until the beginning of June.

The Republican nomination convention will take place from July 15th to 18th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Democrats will nominate their presidential candidate at a party conference from August 19th to 22nd in Chicago, Illinois.

The hot phase of the election campaign begins after the Democratic Party Convention at the latest.

It also includes three television debates between the presidential candidates.
