The duel Trump vs. Biden is well known from 2020 - but the world is different now.

Both candidates prevailed on Super Tuesday.

An outlook.

Palm Beach – Former US President Donald Trump won the Republican primaries on “Super Tuesday” by a landslide and incumbent President Joe Biden also dominated the Democrats.

Everything points to another duel between Trump and Biden for the US presidency.

However, a closer look at the votes in the primary campaign reveals possible problems for the two candidates: Biden is increasingly coming under criticism within the party for his Middle East policy - and Trump could lose the moderate Republicans.

Two old people compete against each other: USA again facing duel Biden vs. Trump

It is the duel that the USA did not want: According to surveys among voters, the majority are not very enthusiastic about the repeat of the 2020 presidential election campaign. One of the reasons: the old age of the two candidates.

At 81, Joe Biden is already the oldest US president in history and Trump is only slightly younger at 77.

Both candidates are repeatedly in the headlines because of misfires and slips of the tongue - Biden most recently also because of alleged lapses in memory.

“Biden is too old, and Trump is a little too crazy,” said voter John Campbell in Quincy, Massachusetts, summarizing the race, according to the

AFP

news agency .

In the primaries, both Trump and Biden won hands down within their parties: the Democrats clearly voted for Biden everywhere on Super Tuesday - there was only one exception: businessman Jason Palmer won in American Samoa.

However, that is insignificant.

The South Pacific region only represents six of the more than 3,930 delegates at the Democratic nomination convention.

Trump won in 14 of the 15 US states that voted on Tuesday, securing over 90 percent of the 1,215 delegates needed for his official nomination as the Republican presidential candidate.

Poll: 81 percent of Haley voters do not want to vote for Trump in the presidential election

What is interesting is not only where Trump won, but also where he lost and why: In Vermont, Nikki Haley was able to prevail against her party colleague.

Experts interpreted this as a sign of dissatisfaction among the more moderate Republican voters.

Apparently not an isolated case: Haley also achieved double-digit percentages of the vote in other states.

The Republican achieved particularly good results in cities, university towns and suburbs.

A CNN poll after the election in the swing state of North Carolina made it clear what this could mean for Trump: 81 percent of those who voted for Haley in the primaries on Tuesday say they do not want to vote for Trump as president in November.

Super Tuesday: Voters rebel against Biden's position on the Gaza war

But the primaries also cast shadows for Biden: Most recently, in Michigan - a US state that is important for the outcome of the presidency - around 100,000 people refused to vote for Joe Biden in the primaries in protest against US Middle East policy.

The result is a “loud and clear message” to the US president for a “permanent ceasefire” in the Gaza war, said Layla Elabed, one of the leaders of the protest campaign.

There were also protest votes on Super Tuesday: According to

CNN,

in Minnesota , 45,000 people voted “uncommitted” (in German: “neutral”), effectively leaving the ballot paper blank.

The incumbent US President could lose the votes of the Muslim electorate in particular if he does not do more to promote a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The US government is calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but at the same time is supplying weapons to Israel.

According to current polls, the US presidential election on November 5th could be close, but Trump is currently in the lead.

However, the Republican is troubled by his legal problems: there are four criminal proceedings underway against the former president - a first in US history.

However, the procedures are unlikely to stand in the way of a candidacy for US President.
