Anyone who travels on a toll route without a valid ticket will receive a replacement toll payment.

What holidaymakers in Austria also need to consider.

The Austrian vignette for the motorways is available to stick on and as a digital vignette.

In addition, there are tolls for pass roads such as the Brenner and Tauern motorways (route tolls) and tunnels.

The ADAC provides information about this.

Drivers who want to take the Brenner motorway, for example, do not have to buy a motorway vignette from the Innsbruck-Süd junction, according to the German Press Agency (dpa).

However, they would have to pay a Brenner route toll of eleven euros for the journey.

The vignette requirement applies on Austria's motorways and expressways.

Vignette and toll: Without a valid ticket it can be expensive

Anyone who travels on a toll route without a valid ticket will have to pay a replacement toll - and will have to pay "at least 120 euros," according to the dpa report.

Drivers should also be careful not to get onto the wrong lane without a ticket, it said.

At many toll stations there are now barrier-free lanes for express passage, which can be recognized by the green markings.

Drivers can now also buy vignettes and route tolls online.

On the way to vacation, many Austrian vacationers will probably once again stick a classic “sticker” on their windshield.

According to the ADAC, the prices were not only adjusted for the ten-day vignette 2024 on December 1st.

In addition to the previous vignettes, Austria now also offers a daily vignette for cars - but only digitally.

Toll prices in Austria: How much will the vignettes cost in 2024?

  • Daily vignette for cars: 8.60 euros (only available digitally)

  • Ten-day vignette for cars: 11.50 euros

  • Two-month vignette for cars: 28.90 euros

  • Annual vignette for cars: 96.40 euros

According to ADAC.de

, the annual vignette is valid

from “December before and up to and including January after the printed calendar year”.

The two-month vignette and the ten-day vignette are valid from a freely selectable date for the specified period.

The adhesive vignette must be attached to the inside of the windshield, clearly visible from the outside, as the automobile club also emphasizes.
