Maike Schumacher grew up in Bruck, went to school and started her family here.

Four years ago, the 50-year-old moved to Berlin.

Fürstenfeldbruck – There the trained gymnastics and dance teacher founded “Dance yourself happy”.

With this event she is now returning to her hometown, to the Marthabräuhalle.

In the interview, she reveals what awaits Brucker.

Ms. Schumacher, what does “Dance Yourself Happy” mean?

The name is program.

You do something with your consciousness and yourself. It's a big difference to normal events of this kind, where everyone dances to themselves and someone stands at the front and shows off something.

Dance Yourself Happy is an experience across the group.

Anyone who has experienced a La Ola wave in the stadium knows the feeling well.

They say the name says it all.

How did this “program” come about?

I worked as a fitness trainer for many years, including at the Puch sports school.

At some point I swam free, away from fitness and towards free dance.

But that doesn’t just mean that you put people there and say “Dance!”

But there is a method to guide this skillfully.

I did further training for this in 2012.

Then you decided to leave your homeland?

By chance I had the chance to go to Berlin, in the middle of the first Corona lockdown, all alone.

Something like that is only possible in Berlin, that you can start again in your late 40s.

That’s where you built the “Dance Yourself Happy” brand?

My news

  • Reopened in the summer of 2023: the inn is closing – read “A lot of money was put into it that is now gone.”

  • Vision of the animal shelter in the abandoned equestrian center is met with skepticism

The gastronomic scene is being stirred up a lot - old acquaintances are whirling along and reading along

  • Family wants to buy an apartment - dream ends with a credit catastrophe

  • Young refugees can be accommodated more cheaply read

  • “Meeting point for young and old”: An eyesore should become a piece of jewelry

I met a sports scientist there who owns a dance studio.

And that's how it all started, in March 2021 I founded “Dance Yourself Happy”.

Now I offer dancing twice a month in Berlin, I have already toured in other cities, in Innsbruck and even in Switzerland with an online course.

In April I'll be in Erlangen and Ingolstadt, in the summer I'm planning a session on the Baltic Sea and in the fall I'll be in the corner of Heilbronn.

And now you’re coming back to “dancing at home” for the first time?

This will be gigantic!

I'm really looking forward to the Marthabräuhalle.

I celebrated carnival there when I was seven years old, lived just a few hundred meters away on Adalbert-Stifter-Ring and now I'm holding my own event there.

What can the participants expect?

First of all there is a welcome round with my team and me.

Then there is a one and a half hour session, it starts quietly so that everyone comes in slowly.

And then we'll burn the hut down (laughs).

Group dynamics, exuberance, lightness, freedom, letting go and tolerance – that will all resonate.

We flick to Elvis Presley or hopsasa around the room like a five-year-old.

After the last song the evening continues...?

I call it “Afterglow.”

Many people feel the need to talk about it and exchange ideas with one another.

There are drinks.

You can dance a little yourself.

By the way: you don't need a dance partner.

You can come alone or with ten people.

The dance event

takes place on Saturday, April 13th, at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) in the Marthabräuhalle.
