In February, 61-year-old Waltraud K. was lured into the basement by a supposed power outage, where the attacker attacked her with a knife.

A neighbor found the woman a short time later in a pool of blood in the basement.

As the news portal

According to information from the news portal, the suspect is the victim's 37-year-old former son-in-law, who lived in Germany.

He is said to have been in Bolzano in the days before the attempted murder and apparently returned to Germany after the crime.

Police arrest suspect after brutal knife attack: Is it the victim's son-in-law?

The public prosecutor's office did not disclose where exactly the police arrested the man.

However, since emergency services from Munich and Passau were involved in the arrest, it is obvious that he resides in Bavaria.

The public prosecutor's office did not confirm that the person arrested was actually the son-in-law.

As the

Neue Südtiroler daily newspaper

reports, the suspect is not 37, but 35 years old.

However, both newspapers unanimously report, citing internal sources, that investigators assume a relationship was committed.

According to the current state of the investigation, the suspect has not gotten over the separation from his ex-wife, with whom he has two children, last fall.

The couple had lived together in Germany, but after the separation the woman moved to South Tyrol and lived with her parents.

The suspect is said to have put his former partner under so much pressure that she had to seek help from a contact point for women who experience violence (GEA).
