Apple aligns itself with the EU rules of the Digital Market Act in force from today, March 7.

The American giant, in the last few hours, has released an update for the iPhone operating system, known as iOS 17.4, which resolves some IT flaws and, above all, aligns itself with Brussels' requests.

Among others, the possibility of downloading apps from digital stores alternative to the App Store is introduced, and a screen for choosing the browser for browsing the internet, with 12 alternatives to the Safari program, owned by Cupertino.

Furthermore, users will be able to choose payment systems other than Apple Pay using NFC technology, already in vogue for various mobile services.

In January, Apple announced its willingness to adapt to EU rules, to allow developers to distribute their apps to users outside the App Store, as well as new fees and conditions.

Residents of the European Union therefore have new options available to install apps from alternative platforms.

As a company note states: "a developer can manage an alternative app marketplace if his account has existed for two years and has a consolidated business in the EU with more than 1 million first installations per year".

The update includes improvements such as song recognition via Siri and a new option for the iPhone assistant to read aloud messages received in any supported language.

“Stolen Device Protection” introduces the ability to enable a higher level of security in any location while “Battery Status” shows charge cycles, manufacturing date and first use on all iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 models Pro. To install the new iOS 17.4 you can go to your phone's settings and search for the update or connect your iPhone to your computer and use iTunes.
