“The cow wants mee(h)r” is the name of the program with which the trio “Gruberich” – from left: Sabine Gruber-Heberlein, Thomas Gruber and Maria Friedrich – presented children between the ages of five and ten on March 23rd in the old schoolhouse in Marnbach want to inspire.

The trio “Gruberich” is now shaking up the music scene in the Oberland with a children’s concert.

We talked to Thomas Gruber about “The Cow Wants Mee(h)r”.

Marnbach – It is known far beyond Bavaria for its very own kind of world music: the trio “Gruberich”.

Now the three professional musicians from Tauting and Munich are shaking up the music scene in the Oberland once again: with a children's concert - and on a special stage.

In the old schoolhouse in Marnbach, their program “The Cow Wants Mee(h)r” will celebrate its German premiere on March 23rd, as Thomas Gruber (Ziach, dulcimer), Sabine Gruber-Heberlein (harp) and Maria Friedrich (cello) have it so far only performed in South Tyrol.

The concert will also be a premiere for the old schoolhouse: here, where the Marnbach theater artists play every year, the audience will for the first time be exclusively between five and ten years old.

Thomas Gruber from Tauting explains in an interview how this came about and what the young audience can expect.

“Gruberich” is known for world music and is very successful in it.

Now a children's concert.

How did that happen?

This has been lingering in our heads for a long time.

We all have children, so we know the audience.

And I love telling stories and reading a lot to my children.

Sometimes I think I'd rather read than listen (laughs).

By chance, last year the organizer of a cabaret festival in Brixen asked us if we wanted to do a children's program.

This is how “The cow wants mee(h)r” came about.

That was different than preparing a concert for adults.

In what way?

You have to involve children even more and take them along even better, for example by clapping along or something like that.

In terms of music, you don't have to change much.

If you convey this convincingly, you can also inspire children with classical music.

And how did the concert in Brixen go?

That went down really well.

We played for kindergarten children, elementary school students and entire families, and everyone liked our story about the cow.

The cow can write poetry, you know?

Ah yes?

And what else happens?

My news

  • Wet and slushy: Accidents on the A95 - one driver was particularly bold

  • Traveling at over 174 km/h on the B472 - police complain about several drivers during checks and read warnings

  • District budget clears first important hurdle - Hospital GmbH wants to forego investments worth millions

Well, the other cows are standing around in the pasture and grazing, but our cow is sitting on a stone and talking or chatting with her friend Otto, the goldfish.

And then a butterfly comes along and tells her that over the mountains there is a deep, dark sea.

But I won't say any more.

“The cow wants mee(h)r” is celebrating its German premiere in Marnbach.

Why there of all places?

The concert is organized by SSV Marnbach-Deutenhausen.

The board member's wife knows my wife Sabine from school.

They once talked about our performance in Brixen.

The school friend immediately asked if we wanted to play the children's concert in Marnbach too.

And she was very persistent (laughs).

And the concert room is really good too.

The old schoolhouse in Marnbach is rather small.

Isn't that a problem?

No, that's great!

It's terrible when you stand on a one meter high stage and look at the children and they are so far away.

Everything is very comfortable in the school building.

Can other places look forward to “Gruberich” children’s concerts this year?

We travel all year round, especially in the Bavarian corner.

The furthest is Hanover.

This year we often play combinations of a children's concert in the afternoon and a concert for adults in the evening.

Apart from Marnbach, nothing is planned in the Oberland yet.

The children's concert

“The cow wants mee(h)r” on Saturday, March 23rd, at 3 p.m. in the old school building in Marnbach was fully booked in no time, so there will now be an additional performance on the same day at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the concert at 1 p.m. can be reserved by email to info@ssv-marnbach.de.

Admission to the children's concert is free, but donations are requested.

Admission starts at 12 p.m., snacks and drinks are available.
