Xcel Energy facilities “appear to have been involved in the ignition” of a massive wildfire that has burned thousands of acres in North Texas, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The cause of the Smokehouse Creek Fire, the largest in state history, which burned more than 1 million acres, is still under investigation by Texas officials, but the utility company said it is also conducting its own research.

The company did not provide additional details about how it reached the determination, but said it was based on “currently available information.”
