The Family Court in Rishon Lezion allowed today (Thursday) to publish that the genetic parents of baby Sophia have been located.

The identity of the genetic parents remains withheld from publication.

Attorney Galit Kerner, who represents the biological parents in the case, said to Walla! Upon the approval of the publication order in the "Assuta Rishon LeZion" fetal default case: "Unfortunately, I cannot provide additional details about the ongoing legal process and I hope so due to the great public interest it has on The entire public of IVF patients in the court will be convinced otherwise in the next stage of the procedure."

About a year and a half ago, it was discovered that the embryos of the patient couple at Assuta Hospital in Rishon Lezion were inserted into the womb of another patient.

The hospital claimed that it knew who the biological mother was, and requested a parentage order from the court, which was granted, but these were not the parents.

Due to defects in the baby's heart, the pregnant woman underwent several surgeries while the baby was still in her womb.

After she was born, Sophia underwent additional surgeries and was hospitalized for a whole month at Sheba Tel Hashomer Hospital.

Her birth parents registered Sophia as their daughter and are raising her with great love, but other couples who are patients at the hospital continued to fight for her and also asked for a parentage test.

The discussion reached the Supreme Court, which overturned the decision of the two lower courts and stated that no more tests would be conducted, and that Sofia would grow up with her biological parents.

A month after the decision, a report by the Ministry of Health's inspection committee found one couple to be the most likely biological parents of Sophia.

After this finding, the court reversed its decision and ordered the test to be carried out.

The couple who requested the test delayed performing it for over three weeks until the judge reprimanded them and asked them to perform the test within three days.

After receiving the results it became known that they were the parents and they requested custody of the girl.

The judges will have to take into account that there is already another case of embryo exchange in Assuta Ramat Hay'il, in which it was found that a 4-year-old boy is not genetically compatible with his father.

So the judges' decision will be a legal precedent and will affect identical cases.
