Fischbachau is facing costly repairs.

An underground stream forces the community to take action.

The first cost estimate is 400,000 euros.

Fischbachau

- The water association had already documented the first damage to the structure ten years ago, but renovation has now become unavoidable: The Fischbach, which runs for a distance of around 120 meters under the sidewalk on the main street in Fischbachau, needs to be upgraded.

As the draft resolution from the most recent local council meeting states, there is “in particular the risk that heavy vehicles could break the cover and thus break into the Fischbach”.

There was therefore no question for the council members that the community had to take action.

However, the committee first had to make a fundamental decision: Should the underground stream be relocated or renovated along its current route?

Financially, Mayor Stefan Deingruber (CSU) said ahead of the debate, renovation would be the better choice.

This could be carried out in parallel with the upgrading of state road 2077, which the Rosenheim State Building Authority is planning for 2025.

“The street will be touched and closed anyway,” explained Deingruber.

And relocation is not a real alternative anyway, as it would require land negotiations.

The mayor strongly doubted whether anyone would let their field be cut up by a stream.

Local council unanimously in favor of renovation

He brought with him to the meeting an engineering firm's cost estimate for a renovation of around 400,000 euros.

The actual costs could vary, Deingruber emphasized, but the sum is set high.

Of course, it is difficult to assess in advance when it comes to an underground stream.

The estimated costs include replacing the cover and reinforcing it with iron or concrete slabs.

“That’s a lot of money,” summarized Deingruber.

“But nothing was done for many years.”

The committee had no problem with the suggestions.

Bernhard Padeller (FaB) agreed that the construction site on the main street should be used immediately for renovation.

Lothar Prack (NL) also spoke out in favor of the current location.

Supply lines underneath, which Josef Obermaier (CSU) had inquired about, would not stand in the way of the renovation, said Deingruber.

The committee then unanimously decided to renovate the Fischbach along the existing route and authorized the mayor to conclude the necessary engineering contract.

Special purpose association commissioned with maintenance

In a second resolution, the local council commissioned the Special Purpose Association for the Maintenance of Third Order Waters (GUZV) with the maintenance of the Fischbach.

This includes renovating the existing piping and removing debris.

A work that is “not subject to entertainment tax,” as Deingruber emphasized.

Specialist companies would no longer offer the services;

Material has to be carried by hand through the piping in a crawl space under poor lighting conditions and a lack of space.

Even at the GUZV, of which the municipality is a member, it is questionable how long the service will continue to be offered.

All council members wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to award the contract for almost 25,000 euros.
