The strike by the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) has also led to significant restrictions on S-Bahn and regional train services in Berlin and Brandenburg since early Thursday morning.
In the capital's inner city ring, almost all S-Bahn traffic comes to a standstill, as the railway announced.
The railway is only trying to connect the outskirts with longer cycle times.
Berlin - Accordingly, there is a frequency of around 60 minutes on the lines S1 (Birkenwerder-Nordbahnhof), S2 (Bernau-Anhalter Bahnhof), S25 (Hennigsdorf-Nordbahnhof), S3 (Erkner-Ostbahnhof) and S46 (Königs-Wusterhausen-Bundesplatz). ) furnished.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the S5 in the Strausberg Nord to Ostbahnhof section runs every 40 minutes, while only the S9 between BER Airport and Friedrichstrasse continues to run every 20 minutes.
The railway initially did not provide any information about the restrictions on regional rail traffic.
However, passengers can find out about the timetables via the railway’s online platforms.
Buses, subways and trams run as usual.
The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) is not directly affected by the GDL strike.
The union called for a 35-hour strike on Monday in the collective bargaining dispute with the railway.
This is the fifth strike in the collective bargaining dispute that has been going on since November.
The railway is expecting severe restrictions in long-distance, regional and S-Bahn traffic nationwide.
The GDL does not want to announce further strikes around two days in advance, as it has done so far.
This could lead to unexpected restrictions for passengers on Berlin S-Bahn traffic in the future.
