Thuringia's Prime Minister warns: An attack by Russia could trigger an influx of refugees.

Solutions are needed for this.

He also suggests an alternative to payment cards.

Erfurt - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Die Linke) is calling for an immigration agreement with the Republic of Moldova and Georgia.

He explained this in an interview with

in the run-up to the most recent Prime Minister's Conference, which focused on how the federal states deal with refugees .

It was only at the end of last year that the federal government declared the two countries to be so-called safe countries of origin.

Asylum applications from people from such countries are usually rejected.

Meanwhile, observers believe that Moldova could be a potential target of a Russian attack.

A few days ago, the pro-Russian rulers of the internationally unrecognized separatist region of Transnistria in the Republic of Moldova asked Russia for “protection”.

Bodo Ramelow: “If the Russians intervene militarily, many people will flee”

“If the Russians intervene militarily, many people will flee.

Also to Germany.

For this we need practical solutions and, above all, immigration offices that enable and not just sanction,” said Ramelow.

It is unrealistic to ignore it.

“Then it makes more sense if there are common rules with these states,” said Ramelow.

He also suggested an alternative model to the payment card for refugees.

“This is unspeakable discrimination,” said Ramelow.

There is an option that is “much easier and much more humane”: “We on the left have always fought for everyone to have the right to open an account.

Why not asylum seekers too?

You could then withdraw limited amounts of cash.” The payment card is not a means for orderly immigration, which he fundamentally welcomes: “I'm not naive, I don't want to have a sleeper from IS foisted on me here, nor one from the Russian secret service.

We have to be vigilant.”

Compulsory work for refugees: “State-organized unemployment in asylum seekers’ homes” as the real problem

The Prime Minister does not believe in compulsory work for refugees, as recently introduced by the Thuringian CDU district administrator Christian Herrgott in the Saale-Orla district.

“He hasn’t invented anything new, but rather applies existing law,” said Ramelow about Herrgott’s initiative.

It doesn't make sense to let refugees do work for pocket money.

“My path would be completely different.

I want people to no longer be banned from working, as is the case with many at the moment.” This “state-organized unemployment in asylum seekers’ homes” is the real problem, says Ramelow.

The Federal Government's Expert Council for Integration and Migration (SVR) also recently expressed criticism of the obligation to work.

According to SVR expert Winfried Kluth, the regulation could even be incompatible with the Basic Law.

Accordingly, Article 12, paragraph 2 and paragraph 3 of the Basic Law stipulate that no one may be forced to do a specific job.

“There are only two exceptions: a traditional general public service obligation that is the same for everyone and forced labor in the event of a court-ordered deprivation of liberty.

Neither one nor the other case exists here,” said Kluth.
