The 35-year-old farmer from Webling succeeds the late August Haas.
Dachau - Johannes Spannraft achieved a remarkable result in the most recent local elections in March 2020: He collected so many votes that he climbed from 24th place on the CSU list to 14th place in the final result.
The young farmer from Webling was the Christian Socialists' first replacement for the city council.
Due to the death of August Haas on February 18th, the 35-year-old actually moved up to the city council and took his oath of office on Tuesday evening.
The married father of four children vowed, among other things, to conscientiously fulfill his official duties.
Spannraft admitted to the local newspaper that he was entering “completely new territory” with his local political volunteer work.
As a medium-sized company, he wanted to try to make “sensible decisions”.

A legacy of commitment: tribute to August Haas
This means that Spannraft is likely to be exactly in line with his late predecessor Haas, whom the city council commemorated with a minute's silence and who, according to Mayor Florian Hartmann, “was particularly concerned about medium-sized businesses as well as solid finances and good cooperation with neighboring communities”.
Hartmann also paid tribute to Haas with the words: “He was a critical spirit, with ironic and self-deprecating humor.
Sensitive, intelligent and always fair.” Haas had prepared “conscientiously for days” for the meetings of the city council and committees and had always shown “enormous detailed knowledge and great competence” in his work as a city councilor.
All in all, August Haas was a city councilor “with mind, heart and joyful passion”.
And he was a person for whom volunteer work was a matter of course: “It was just right for him,” said the mayor.
August Haas will not be forgotten in his hometown, which he loved so much: “We remember him with the certainty that what he achieved will remain.”

Discussion about new appointments to the city department for municipal properties
The discussion about the replacement of the city council department for municipal properties underlined how much August Haas was recognized and valued within the city council.
SPD city councilor Anke Drexler emphasized that Haas had carried out this voluntary work “competently for years”.
This department is therefore “hardly conceivable” for her without August Haas and it is therefore definitely “an option not to fill this position again”.
The CSU parliamentary group, however, suggested Norbert Winter as a possible successor to August Haas as real estate officer.
The city council unanimously approved this as well as the proposal that Winter succeed Haas as chairman of the audit committee.
