Many observers wondered why the unclear situation behind the hospital walls dragged on for so many hours without the situation being resolved.

It cannot yet be said whether the woman is armed and whether she has other people under her control or is specifically threatening her, said a police spokeswoman.

The situation is still too unclear for that.

At least no one has been injured so far.

“We have no information about any injured people,” said a police spokeswoman in the evening.

However, it is not yet known how long the operation will last.

Update from March 4th, 8:55 p.m.:

During the large-scale police operation in Aachen, there are new findings about the “suspicious person” who poses the potential danger.

The police explain that it is said to be a 65-year-old woman who has been in the hospital since the afternoon.

Shortly after she arrived, smoke was noticed in the woman's "close area".

The woman then barricaded herself in a room.

The surrounding rooms of the hospital were then evacuated.

Special forces are on site.

When asked whether the 65-year-old was alone in a room or possibly threatening other people, the police spokeswoman did not give an answer.

Update from March 4th, 7:40 p.m.:

The “suspicious person” who triggered a major police operation in an Aachen clinic on Monday evening is a woman.

This was confirmed by a Cologne police spokeswoman.

The spokeswoman did not provide any further information - including the question of whether the woman was armed and whether she had taken people into her power.

There were road closures and rail traffic restrictions around the hospital in the evening, as the police announced via X (formerly Twitter).

First report from March 4th:

Aachen - The police in Aachen are currently on a large scale because an armed person is said to be in the Luisenhospital.

As the

Bild

newspaper reports, pyrotechnics are said to have been ignited by a woman, and now there is said to be a hostage situation.

The police were initially unable to confirm this information.

The emergency services announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the surrounding streets were closed and that rail traffic was also restricted.

Major police operation in Aachen: Suspicious person leads to “possible threatening situation”

When asked by 24Rhein, a police spokesman explained: “It's about a suspicious person.” Officially, the Cologne authorities have so far written the following: “The police and fire brigade are currently on duty at the Luisenhospital in Aachen.

There are currently indications of a possible threatening situation.

The area around the hospital is cordoned off.

The police ask that you avoid the area as much as possible.”

Due to the large-scale operation, sections of the railway in the west of the city have already been closed.

“Trains wait at suitable stations,” Deutsche Bahn informs on X. This could lead to short-term changes in the train route.

Delays and partial cancellations are possible.

Passengers should check their connections because it is currently unclear how long the operation will last.

The police operation surrounding the former RAF terrorists, who have been wanted for 30 years, is currently making big headlines.
