Martín Menem
, president of the Chamber of Deputies, criticized
this Thursday the 30% increase
in the legislators' allowance, in line with the increase applied by the Casa Rosada to state workers and similar to what was agreed in the majority of the joint elections. of the private sector during the first two months of the year.
"
If all people make an effort, the Legislative Branch should not be oblivious
to this, because deputies and senators have the possibility of earning more," he stated in dialogue with Urbana Play.
With the increase, the deputies received a net amount of
$2,174,887
for the month of February , to which must be added what is received for uprooting, which reached
$464,090.29
.
While in January, the allowances were at $1,699,000 and $323,789.25, due to uprooting.
"It doesn't seem right to me in this situation, any type of increases," added the deputy.
At the same time, he questioned the allowances of legislators and judges and spoke of carrying out a salary review.
"Let's pay attention to what we are doing, which is what society needs:
in politics, we have to adjust there
," he stated.
"Every year the Legislative Branch is updated, it is not the first time that it updates such as teachers and health, although it was always above, it was updated the same. I am having breakfast now that there is a resolution from 2011, that all employees are hooked, and it includes to deputies, this works automatically," he commented.

This update in the allowances is based on the so-called "Enganche Law" that since 2011 allows deputies and senators to receive the same increase granted to Congressional staff, and which was set at a cumulative increase of almost 30%, granted in two installments of 16% in January and 12% in February.
The resolution confirming the increase for Congressional employees was signed by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, and the head of the Senate, Vice President Victoria Villarruel.
However, it was never reported that the legislators were going to be "hooked" to the legislative salary update.
Menem stressed that for his part he decided to give away his salary as a national deputy and added that the salaries of all branches of the State should be reviewed to aim for an adjustment in different areas.
In that line, he marked a difference with the previous presidencies of the Lower House, who assured that they hired more than one hundred employees in his first 90 days of management, and that upon his arrival he only joined with 19 employees to "manage that monster that is the camera".
