An investigation was opened after the L214 association complained of “mistreatment” of animals.
It targets a pig farm in Morbihan, the Vannes prosecutor's office announced Wednesday evening.
This announcement comes a few days after two companies constituting one of the largest Breton pig farms were sentenced to a fine of 60,000 euros, including 20,000 suspended, following a complaint from the animal rights association.
L214 this time filed a complaint against a breeder owning two farms in Malansac and Trédion.
“The catastrophic state suggests that
(they are)
abandoned,” the association indicates in a press release.
The public prosecutor, Maxime Antier, confirmed “the filing of a complaint” by L214, justifying the opening of the investigation.
The prefecture sent a formal notice in summer 2023
In the photos and videos transmitted by L214, pigs have gaping wounds.
Pieces of corpses lie in a manger and sows coexist with their dead piglets;
they still carry artificial insemination probes in their reproductive systems.
“The prefecture has been aware of the situation for almost two years,” accuses L214, who demands the immediate closure of the operation, evoking the “horror” in this “dying place”.
She assures that checks have already revealed “non-conformities concerning the treatment of effluents, health monitoring and the cleanliness of the premises”.
It also mentions a “prefectural formal order issued in July 2023 against the operator”.
However, the latter “ignores requests for compliance”.

The association further affirms that these farms supply Leclerc stores.
She “asks the brand to stop its supply with this operator”.
More generally, she would like Leclerc to “turn his back on the worst breeding practices”.
L214, which aspires to a world without animal exploitation and therefore without meat, made itself known by broadcasting shocking images filmed in secret on farms or slaughterhouses.
It was created in 2008 and today has around a hundred full-time employees.
