The Zustorf firefighters reported collapsed roofs and 1,000 liters of oil leaking, which resulted in many hours of deployment last year.
Zustorf – The Zustorf volunteer fire department is much more optimistic about the future than it was a year ago.
This has to do with the new fire station.
As reported, a lot has happened since the tender for the new house was withdrawn.
In addition, the fire department was able to report a new record at its meeting in the Lintsche inn: the volunteers worked 2,065 hours last year - “we have never had so many before,” announced Commander Bernhard Schwarzbözl.
The people from Zustorf invested 90 hours of the total of 2,065 in training courses, including, for example, respiratory protection and paramedics.
Firefighter licenses have also been obtained.
The club held 15 exercises last year, including a large-scale exercise on the air base area with enormous heat generated by a simulated major fire.
In addition to the total of 424 hours of practice, there is also equipment maintenance, administration and preparation - and of course the operations.
The Zustorf fire department counted 14 here, which is “a completely normal average”.
This included a large animal rescue that was so difficult that the Langenpreising fire department had to be alerted.
In another mission, the comrades had to support a rescue helicopter, and once 1,000 liters of oil leaked, which was an enormous amount of work.
At a biogas plant, the roof of a fermentation tank collapsed due to snow masses, but a second roof was able to be saved.
The latter deployment in particular increased the number of operational hours to well over 281.
The fire department can currently deploy eight group leaders and 15 breathing apparatus wearers as well as eight machinists.
In addition to the missions, a lot is also happening with the Zustorfers' equipment.
The fire engine from 1994, which will still be in use for a while, needed new tires.
When it comes to purchasing a new car, things are also moving forward: it will be an Iveco with a body that can hold 1,000 liters of water.
It costs 364,000 euros, 70,000 euros comes from the Free State of Bavaria.
The new vehicle is scheduled to arrive in July this year.
The work on the new tool shed is on schedule, Schwarzbözl reported.
The screed is to be laid these days and the roof is now also tight.
The hall doors will be coming soon and the kitchen planning is also in full swing.
District fire chief Thomas Metz called fire departments the size of Zustof “immensely important”.
And he said it was “really fun working with you.”
