Anyone who currently walks past the power plant in Niedernach on Lake Walchensee will notice that the plant is not in operation.
Uniper is investing almost two million in the operation, but there has been a delay.
Jachenau – “We regularly invest in our power plants.
“We began a major renovation work on the Niedernach power plant last year,” reports Theodoros Reum Schüssel, spokesman for hydropower at the Uniper Group, when asked by our newspaper.
The transformer and control technology are being replaced, and a machine overhaul is also being carried out.
“The overhaul, i.e. the thorough check of the turbine and generator, is the most lengthy and complex work,” says Reum Schüssel.
There were unexpected delays.
“That's why the work is currently ongoing.” Uniper is currently investing a total of almost two million euros in the power plant in Niedernach, says Reum Schüssel.

Building under monument protection
The power plant was built in 1951 and generates ten million kilowatt hours annually.
“In mathematical terms, this is enough for almost 3,000 households.” In Niedernach, the water comes through the Rißbach tunnel to Lake Walchensee.
The building is a historical monument.
