The area of the so-called blacksmith shop is to be developed.
There was an architectural competition for this.
These are the plans for the Frankfurter Ring.
Around 3,500 jobs, a hotel and a building almost 100 meters high: these are the plans for the so-called blacksmith shop.
In a competition, several architectural firms worked out what the area at Frankfurter Ring 227 could actually look like.
The result of this first collection of ideas has now been presented.
According to the city, the aim of the planning is to “preserve the Frankfurter Ring as a production and commercial location and at the same time make it fit for the future – green, diverse and open”.
The architectural offices worked on the 5.6 hectare area in two ways: The ideas competition was primarily about urban design.
So with big questions like the positioning of the buildings.
In the implementation part, concrete plans for the high-rise and the neighborhood square were required.
The hotel is intended to contribute to the revitalization of the area
The winners of the ideas competition are the Stuttgart architecture and urban planning office UTA together with the “bauchplan” landscape architects from Munich.
The planners are placing the high-rise east of the monument “in a prominent location directly on the Frankfurter Ring,” as the jury minutes say.
And further: “The hotel in the north of the square can make an important contribution to the revitalization of the area due to its central location.”
The jury honored the first prize in the implementation part, which was won by the Berlin offices of “robertneun” architects and Lohrengel Landschaft, as follows: The high-rise “draws its special charisma and significance from a complex and multifaceted close-up and long-distance effect”.
With its clever height staggering, the 96 meter high house fits cleverly into the neighborhood.
Competition results form the basis for the development plan
The results of the competition are not yet the actual design that will be implemented.
They form the basis for the development plan.
Citizens will then also have a say in its design: public participation is planned for the second quarter of 2024.
